I was taking 400 ml of ibuprophren 3x a day for a bacterial infection in my tooth.

Well after taking it for about a week for the pain of the toothache I started to notice I seemed bloated in my abdomen, like 3 mos pregnant!!:gaah

Then, my face looked swelled. I figured it was the toothache and figured the antibiotics I was on would help but it got worse. Just fat looking.

Then I said, gosh, my clothes arent' fitting right so I got on the scale......:gaah I gained 7 lbs in a week!!!!:gaah

I'm usually about 124 lbs and I was 135 the one day, then the next morning I was 130.........I freaked and my pharmacist said stop taking it and it's a know side effect.

So...............any suggestions on how to get back to my weight? Fluid retention is the effect.......

Diretics?? If so.......what are they??

drink more water. Seriously. Part of the reason you are retaining is because your body does not feel like it's getting enough, so holding onto what it has. Ibupropfin makes me all puffy too. Bleck. It takes more fluid to cleanse your blood when you are taking medications, any medications.

The first day or so you might feel like it's not working, but consider that your body is not yet sure you are really going to keep the good stuff coming. If it thinks you might back off on the water input, it's not going to change it's retentive ways. So just keep drinking and know your body will chill out and stop holding onto every drop ;)
Plain water by the way. Flavored water, even tea, has something new in it for your body to process, so it will be less effective.

Soda's and caffinated drinks do not count as water intake LOL

I can relate. I am taking an anti-depressant for OA that makes you crave sweets. I gained two pounds over the weekend.:doh At least the ice cream I bought was light or it could have been 4 pounds:aha
You can get diuretics at walmart for less then 5 dollars.

I do not have to take anything to gain weight. Just the smell of a cake or a pie or anything yummy adds weight on me, via osmosis. I am also convinced that the mere thought of certain foods I begin to gain weight. I have no proof, but I really believe it.

I got on the scale and appear to lost 2 lbs overnight. Water weight is bizarre!

I'm more concerned that my kidney's were not functioning.....that's the last time I take that! I wonder if I'm considered "allergic" to it?

What she said!

The body needs 1/2 it's weight in oz daily. Anything caffienated is a no no so you have to add more water. (example, if I weight 150 pounds then I need to drink 75 oz water daily). Water helps flush out toxins and if you are eating enough fiber (30 - 32 grams per day) water will help you not get constipated or gassy from the fiber.

Pure clean water. Add a little lemon (no sugar) if you need it to taste like something.

More water! Eight to ten 8 oz cups a day. Just drink another one everytime you come out of the bathroom :D.

How is the toothache?

Crystal Lite is good. I get the off brand at Wal-mart for half the price. It comes in many flavors and is made with splenda.
I did try a new diet pepsi the other day that had minerals and vitamins. It was acutally pretty good, but I don't know if it counts as water.

My toothache is much better!! Still on antibiotics though for another few days

Also, how about this, I lost 3 more lbs and I can fit into my clothes comfortably now.....that was so bizarre!!!!

Yes, I NEVER drink water . I usually have 2 mugs of coffee and then MAYBE an 8 oz glass a day of water.......

Tisk tisk tisk......... I know!
