I found this website that sets out a schedule to have you read the whole Bible in a year... I don't know what links are allowed so I'll err on the safe side and not post it,just to be sure...but do you think this is a good idea?

Reading the Bible in a year? I think it's a fantastic idea.:)
Several websites have yearly reading plans. Bible Gateway has several reading plans.

The one I'm doing isn't that, and it has me reading a bit of OT, a bit of NT, and then passages from Psalms and Proverbs (looking at the schedule,I read through Psalms twice in the year). Is this a good way to do it?

Why don't you go ahead and paste the link? I don't know how it could be that bad if they have a Bible reading plan. I guess it could be a cult site, although I have seen LDS sites linked on here, but it wasn't obvious. Or just type in the name of the website.

okay here's the link, and if it's inappropriate (or, like a cult site), feel free to remove it and I apologize in advance.

I'm just looking for opinions one way or the other. And I'd like to get it started soon 'cause I've already got time to make up.

Looks like a good website to me.
I see what they are trying to do. The OT is viewed by some as hard to read or a bunch of boring stories. So this is an attempt at breaking up the reading into pieces so that you aren't faced with a huge book and get discouraged.
I personally love the OT (although the part of Leviticus about mildew I found a bit tedious).:aha The trick is when you don't understand what is going on or why a part is in the Bible just ask yourself - What does this teach me about Jesus? You will find that the entire Bible is about Jesus Christ in some way.
OK now this is just my opinion. If you read according to that pattern, you will lose the way that the books flow. The Bible was written without the chapter and verse divisions. They were added in like the 12th century as a study help. But the individual books are meant to be read and understood as a unit. I think by reading a little from this and a little from that you will not gain the sense of the book as a unit.
Reading the Bible from front to back can be daunting if you don't understand what you are reading. If you are not familiar with the Bible now, I think you should get a good overview before you begin trying to read the whole thing. But if you already have at least a good basic understanding, then just start at the beginning and read.
Again this is just my opinion. I always hold out the slim possibility I could be wrong.:shocked

This is the website I use every morning, Quiet Kate. The One Year Bible was recommended to me by an elder at church and I really like it. Often, you'll find that the New Testament, Psalms or Proverbs reading for that day supports the Old Testament reading - really has helped me appreciate the whole Book more.

Last year I read the chronlogical Bible in a year. I've read the Bible in a year before but last year was the first time I ever read id in chronlogical order. It was a very interesting way to read it.
