I am planning a baby shower for my SIL. It will be at the end of August and outside. Any advise on food?

Pickles 'n' Ice cream

On a small oval cracker platter, scoop out three large servings of different cream cheese based dips. Use your faves or use your imagination - nuts, shredded cheeses, raisins, dried cherries, olives, chickpeas, green onion, dried beef, clams, horseradish. Top these scoops with three different, complementary (this is important - I learned the heard way), colorful sauces. Aim for a red, a yellow or orange and a brown - you're going for the look of an ice cream sundae. Thai chili sauce, Pickapeppa sauce, and duck sauce or Asian hot mustard sauce, for instance. Garnish with two dill pickle spears, one each lengthwise down the outer sides of the platter. Serve with crackers and raw veggies.

It's best served at room temp, so I'm thinking it will hold up well if you keep fridged until just before service. On second thought, nix the clams. They don't hold up so well outdoors in August, I'm guessing.

Great idea! Monkeys are *huge* these days. Sock monkeys especially. Probably a boomer thing. Here is a link to some cute animal rubber stamps - including two adorable monkey babes. Perhaps you could use them for the name badges? Ooooo, a monkey-themed shower! How sweet is that?

and oh oooooh! along with the jam jars, you could send everyone home with a recipe for monkey bread, written on personalized cards made with the monkey stamp !!! somebody stop me, i'm outta control !!!
