I have this option to clean my hibernation files on my computer. It looks like I have about 800MB accumulated there. Since I'm not sure what hibernation files are, I was wondering would it be safe to clean them.:scratch I don't want my restore point I created in case a problem occurs with Windows to be wiped out. So just what is this hibernation files thing?

Hibernation is when the computer goes to sleep, usually due to being left idle for a while. The point is that it doesn't shut down completely, so it starts back up quickly and can resume what you were doing.
It's completely safe to get rid of them. They're just snapshots of the state your machine was in when it hibernated.

Thank you so much!!! This won't affect the system restore image I have stored in case a problem develops with a program, will it?

If you can find the hiberfil.sys just delete it ... or in Vista just change the power settings

Then you wouldn't have to worry about the restore partition.

Thankyou, Matheteou! It only takes one click with the pc sometimes and poof, a lot of your important files are gone. I've learned that the hard way. So, you're right. I'll make more back-up discs before I start clicking. Thanks!:thumb
