I'm sure we have all heard someone say the world is running out of oil. I heard an estimate last night (on TV) of 24 months worth left. I don't know how accurate that is, but even if we had five or ten years worth left, shouldn't we have been able to figure out an alternative by now, like a way to liquefy coal for fuel? The technological brainiacs have figured out how to clone and make the best bombs and missiles, but they can't figure out a sensible alternative to oil? (Ethanol is not sensible.) I'm sure we can all imagine what will happen when the oil does run out. Almost no one will be able to get to their jobs. That will be the beginining of the end of us. Yet our happy-go-lucky world carries on as if nothing will change. We're living the last of the "good times" folks. Come soon Lord Jesus.

The "Happy Go-Lucky World" is living in denial. So many living as though their hands are over their ears and they are yelling "lah, lah, lah, lah" so they can't hear the unpleasant sounds of the falling secular world around them. And yet they crave more money, more stuff, more debased television programs, less time for the kids, gimmee more, more, more.

Oil prices will go nowhere but up--dispite the world supply. I pay $3.50 a gallon for mid-grade gasoline where I live. Folks, I am feeling it in my hide and in my wallet. Grocery prices continue to rise. For example, I now pay $2.50 for a loaf of wheat bread that several years ago cost 99 cents.

When it comes to fuel alternatives, I have to plead ignorance. Is Ethanol viable, I have no idea. Do we need to eliminate our dependence of foreign oil? Absolutely. Do I hope that Jesus takes us off of this fallen orb soon? Positively!!!!!

When the Rapture comes, this time table will lengthen since so many will not be here to use the oil :) hehehe I can't wait. I just want to help the world and their oil crisis. :D

There's probably not a lot of the light, sweet crude oil left. That's the stuff found in the ME.

However, there's lots of lower grades of crude oil, enough to last some time if I read various reports correctly. These lower grades are more difficult to refine, though, and hence more expensive. I don't know at what price point this heavy crude becomes attractive to the various oil companies.

Here's a link discussing heavy crude oil: http://www.battelle.org/Environment/publications/envupdates/Fall2003/article9.stm

Instead of wasting billions on space travel and Star Trek activities, why can't that money be put into earth resources, like more drilling. Oh yeah, and also to take up FEMA's slack in storm damaged states. It's a shame that our so-called government has let gas prices get so high. When I see pictures of Bush visiting his Saudi buddies and smiling and laughing with them, it's as if my full tank of gas just leaks all over the AM/PM parking lot. Just another birth pang and the closer they get, the better I feel. Soon, Lord, soon.

:thumb I agree. We need to keep our feet on the ground and concentrate on realistic resolutions instead of the impractical notion of growing enough corn to fuel the world.:doh Corn is for food and not fuel. I f we are truly that close to running out of fuel, why hasn't some action toward rationing been taken? And yes, it's galling to think these Arabs are pulling the strings when it comes to fuel costs. We developed their stinking oil fields when they were nothing more than tent dwellers pulling their donkies behind them. Now look at them.

Newt Gingrich said on Fox News last night that the majority of our oil comes from Canada and Mexico.

If that is the case, any oil problems out of Asia would affect the oil prices simply due to fear in the market. I'm not knowledgable in this area, but it would seem to me that oil price hikes are more due to the oil companies taking advantage of the situation than anything else.

I don't believe we are running out of oil.
I do believe however that there are alternatives to oil that could and should be developed that would aleviate the current "problem."

I seem to remember something, er (cough) about gas shortages in 1973. I remember getting up at 3:00 a.m., to wait several hours in line for my "off number" license plated car to get gas. We were running out of gas then (cough), too. Um...color me skeptical.
