Just curious as I was thinking of doing this. Has anyone ever done lowlights on their or someone elses hair at home? If so, how did it turn out and maybe some tips on techniques?

Thanks and God bless,
Steffie

I don't color my own hair anymore.

It wasn't that I had a bad experience, it is just that I think they do a better job than I can, that would go twice for highlights/lowlights.

I think they look good when done well. The trick is to not make it look too "obvious" that the hair is color-treated. If you stay one shade away from the base color, it should look great.

I agree...If you can afford to get them professionally go that route. I used to color my own hair and it looks so much better now that a professional does it.

I have had low lights put in at a salon. My hair was too light, after years of hightlights, and the low lights added some depth. It looked nice.

Now I am just too busy to get in to the salon and I am considering jsut letting the gray grow out:ohno It just takes so much time...but I'm only 41, I do not know if I am ready to be so gray.....oh well, this is another thread all together!

I have never went to a salon for hair color, but do for perms and cuts. I cannot afford to spend that much every 4 to 6 weeks just for color, so I have always colored my own hair and even have highlighted my own and others, but never have done lowlights, so was curious on others opinions on it.

I actually got tired of coloring so often, so colored mine a little closer to my natural, but with a bit of red cause my natural is too dull for me. :)

go to the beauty store, get a highlighting cap, pull the hair out you want lowlighted, put the darker color and and there you go. You got lowlights and no salon cost!

My girlfriend works at a salon, but will come to my house where she makes 100% of the money...it took some time, but she puts 3 colors in my hair to hide the grey, and she is awesome!

I love what she does, but I have to have it done every 4-6 weeks...ugh

Well, I did it by myself and I think it turned out pretty good. Wish I could show a pic, but don't have it on my pc yet. Anyway, it was my daughters hair and I used regular light brown hair color and used foil to seperate. :)
