It is interesting, just like people believed the Titanic was unsinkable, some believe the U.S. is as well.

When everyone believes something to be true and you examine the issue and discover that it is not true, realize that most have only prepared for what they believe to be true....that the boat will not sink...sometimes when an almost universal majority believe something to be true based on false premises or assumptions, it sometimes if not most of the time makes it that much more likely for the unexpected to occur, and when it does it is 10x worse because it catches everyone by surprise....
