I have a compaq laptop with wireless access. The childrens hospital has an unsecured wireless network that I used to be able to access on my computer just a month ago. It says I'm connected but if I'm able to get on it will only allow me to get to one site and no other. Like I can get on the rr main page and check the news or Terry or Todds' articles from the main page but not any other site. I didn't have wireless at home before but now do that my stepson set up but he said it shouldn't be interfering with the wireless at the hospital. I've done adaware to remove any spyware, AVG and Kaspersky for viruses and the like, clean disk and cookies removal I even did disk defrag but it wont work. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated, my daughter has to be in the hospital frequently so we really need this to work.

Thank you.

First thought is whether or not the hospital has it set up that way. I know plenty of hotels, for instance, that will ONLY let you get to a 'portal' that requires a password, and only THEN can you access the rest of the internet.

I assume you can access the wireless @ your house just fine?

Yes, I can get on at home just fine and the hospital has an unsecured wireless so no password required. I should also tell you that my other daughters laptop works just fine here and hers is also set up for our wireless at home, that's whats so confusing. Thanks for the help.:hug

I have seen what King is talking about at hotel/motels.

The hosptals wireless lan is open and does not need a password to log onto it, but the access to the internet is limited to one portal that you will need access too.

The portal is the only door to the outside world, and you need the key.

Ask the IT guys at the hospital.

I did ask they said it was a problem with my security. Which makes no sense as I have been on their system just a month ago. Oh well my other daughters laptop works so I'll just keep using that. Thanks for the help, it is appreciated. :thankyou

Er, well, if your other daughter's laptop DOES work on that same network, then it probably is.

What spyware/adware/firewall programs do you run?

adaware, AVG and norton (which expired) but we also did a Kaspersky online check after we couldn't get on. It's confusing because I haven't changed anything and nothing is showing up on the adaware, AVG or Kaspersky.:idunno:idunno

Er, Norton what? If it's Norton Antivirus, you NEED to get one of those virus checkers off of there.

Matter of fact, best thing to do is to

a) download whatever antivirus client you are going to use,
b) uninstall ALL antivirus clients, then
c) reboot and install the one you want to use.

I can EASILY see Norton being the problem....I recently did a troublecall for a doctor whose computer was SLOOOOOW.

The problem IMHO was Norton Internet Security. Once I removed it and replaced it with similar programs (AVG, Spyware Terminator, Comodo Personal Firewall), it ran one heck of a lot faster.
