How old do you think a child should be to see the passion of the Christ? I was wondering if 9 and 11 were too young or not. My son and daughters are very Christ loving kids, but sometimes I think they don't understand what our father has done for us. Any input folks?

I personally feel it is a little young, because of the graphic violence. It may traumatize them or cause them to have bad dreams. They may not get the powerful message of the movie if they become caught up in the violent imagery, which is easy to do at those ages.

I really think you have to be the judge of your children's maturity level though and decide for yourself. I would wait until they're at least 13 years old to let them see it. JMO

yes, too young.... it's unneccessary violence for those ages. They'll understand better when they're older.

Here's a better option for a 9-year-old child:

And if your child would enjoy watching the movie online:

Thanks, I have really been praying about this and I think I am going to wait. I think they would be traumatized by it ,they are pretty tenderhearted. I know when I seen it, I could not eat or talk for a few hours. I was just in awe for what my father went threw.

The Passion was rough for me too, and I was an undergraduate in college when I first saw it.

But when I was that age, my parents had me watch Franco Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth. It did a lot for my spiritual walk. I really liked the movie even then when I didn't care for anything religious. The characterization and dramatization of the crucifixion (and all the scenes) were powerful, realistic, and not watered down enough to get me to do some thinking and bring some conviction and understanding (the Jesus movie probably wouldn't have been any different from what I'd already had already), but the violence and gore was not over the top to be too traumatizing if it was never appreciated before.

It's very long, and covers pretty much everything (the whole thing is a little over 6 1/2 hours, my parents broke it up over a series of days) but well done. I've always really liked it even from that age, and remembered it that I got the dvd for myself like around 15 years later.
