Hey everyone,

I remember how things went the last time a thread was made about this topic, and I'm not looking to start an argument, but I would like some honest opinions on whether or not marijuana is permitted by the bible. Let's look at this verse:

Genesis 1:29 KJB - And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

I guess the question is: What is the proper way to use this plant? If it is given to us for meat, are we to not consume it? And if marijuana use is wrong in God's eyes, what about the use of alcohol and the smoking of cigarettes by Christians? It seems as if alcohol and cigarettes are somehow acceptable, despite the fact that they have been proven to be much more damaging to the body.

I'm mainly looking for input from people who have actually used marijuana, and know the affects it has on the mind, as I'm really getting tired of people telling me it's a gateway drug and that produces "bad fruit" because it's what they've heard from the government and others. But I do appreciate scripture support from anyone who cares to contribute. Aside from the odd drink (maybe 1 drink a month, at the most) I do not use any other drug and nor do I ever plan to (if you consider a plant God made as a drug).

Some people make the argument that we shouldn't need marijuana or any other drug, because we have God. That is a very good point. We must rely on Christ in all that we do, and not allow ourselves to be separated from that. Based on my own experiences, and I can't speak for others, I find it helps me appreciate what the Lord has given me, His death and resurrection for our sins at the cross, as well as the beauty and magnificence of His creation.

At the same time, I want to know the truth. I don't want to justify the use of this plant and mislead myself if I shouldn't be using it, even if it's occasionally. I'm just gonna jump ahead and ask one more thing before the replies start coming. Because we are to obey the laws God has put in place (i.e through the government), and marijuana is illegal in most countries, I am told that it is therefore wrong in God's eyes to use it. But if God, through scripture, permits it's use, then aren't we to obey God's Word before we obey the government?

I appreciate any help. Thank you for your time.

For instance, would you 'consume' Poison Ivy?

And if marijuana use is wrong in God's eyes, what about the use of alcohol and the smoking of cigarettes by Christians? It seems as if alcohol and cigarettes are somehow acceptable, despite the fact that they have been proven to be much more damaging to the body. Moderate alcohol consumption is clearly allowable from Scripture, IMO.

Tobacco (and smoking in general) isnt mentioned at all, but I would be willing to put is into the 'not good for you' category. IN any case, tobacco (and marijuana) are both clearly not 'food'.

Aside from the odd drink (maybe 1 drink a month, at the most) I do not use any other drug and nor do I ever plan to (if you consider a plant God made as a drug).Digitalis (a Heart medication) comes from the Foxglove plant. I wouldnt suggest eating or smoking it...

At the same time, I want to know the truth. I don't want to justify the use of this plant and mislead myself if I shouldn't be using it, even if it's occasionally. There is a lot of Scripture about being 'clear minded'... :noidea

Or are you eating the marijuana?

We are also told to obey the laws of man unless they go against the Word of God. If pot is illegal where you live then it's a sin.

Then One...you know the answer; and Two...funny how many times I've heard this verse quoted by pot smokers, but it's about the only verse they know. :doh

Sorry...I am not patient enough to allow an absurd discussion to take up space and wear down the patience of our members trying to defend ridiculous issues over and over. :hat
