I was just thinking about this as I started to make my dinner (chicken in honey-dijon cream sauce over wild rice) that one of the things I best love about chicken is the repetetive motions of chopping and stirring and so on. Is that weird or do others out there feel that way? :idunno

Cooking (especially baking) relaxes me also. I have a habit of singing while I'm chopping, stirring, etc. and my spirits get lifted. I also love the satisfaction I get when the dish turns out well and the family compliments it. It makes you feel like you accomplished something.

I think sometimes what I love about cooking is the end product and the "I did it!" feeling of accomplishment after, especially when it is so good, and wasn't that hard to make.
I don't care if someone else compliments it as long as I know I did a good job making it turn out, or I can find out how to make it turn out next time.
I'm trying to round out my cooking now by adding in additional recipes, and once I do that... I want to play with presentation some as 'parties' seem to be the thing here, so I figure hey, since I have to have special food anyway, why not up the bar a little and always present it well? :D
I wish I could go to cooking school, but the diet just totally turns that one over on it's head.. I'll have to suffice for watching folks do it on tv and reading books and just do what I can from there.

:waveI love cooking, too. It is relaxing to me, when I am not rushed and everything is well planned out. I am not a quick, creative cook, but need a good recipe to follow. I try to use the most natural foods I can find, like lately I have been buying our meats and eggs from a local farmer who raises his animals in pasture and on grass. I bought a grain mill and I make whole wheat bread. I stopped hand kneading tho, which I found very relaxing, b/c I have arthritis in my right hand, so I use my mixer. I love giving my family food that I have made, that I know is good for them.
It does give me a feeling of satisfaction/accomplishment.
When I was younger, I used to LOVE to handwash dishes... THAT was relaxing, staring out the window into the back yard, with my hands in warm water!! (prob would help my hands, tho)

I really enjoy cooking and baking too. I turn on some music ( lately it's been Dean Martin's Italian Love Songs ) and sing and dance around with my 3 year old granddaughter. She loves it!! This IS good because it was becoming very stressful for me to cook dinner while taking care of her and my 6 month old grandson.
I used to find hand washing dishes relaxing too. I bought my first dishwasher a year ago though and I love it! :yeah :yeah I take care of the grandkids, cook dinner for 8-10 people and then they all go home leaving me with the dishes! :thinking :scratch :ohno

Here, Here....
I cook well, but I can't wait to get done so that I can eat already. I'd prefer never to have to cook at all.
