Actually 2 questions if ya'll dont mind...

1. Do any you know of a good (and cheap) book that gives info on how to survive in times like the depression, when you have to get really self sufficient? What you need to save.... how to save it (food primarily)... what else is essential? :thinking

2. With that said, I keep having these really strong thoughts about getting food, etc and stocking up... the staples primarily.... I dont know if its just my mind working overtime... or if the Holy Spirit is leading me to do this....they wont go away......and I Have 5 million other things to worry about right now........ is anyone else experiencing this? What is strange, its not so much so that I can survive...... but so I can help others survive.... those who wont have anything saved..... Maybe I'm just crazy.... but I'd like to get ya'lls thoughts on it..... we are in a serious financial situation right now so these thoughts at this time make even less sense....

Thanks ahead of time for your help and replies...... and if I am delusional.. please go ahead and tell me that too.... it would be a relief to know its just my crazy mind doing its thing......:hehee

What you need to save.... how to save it (food primarily)... what else is essential? :thinking I bought some really good ones per other recommendations on this forum:

The Encyclopedia of Country Living: An Old Fashioned Recipe Book
Waterhole: How to Dig Your Own Well
All New Square Foot Gardening
Water Storage: Tanks, Cisterns, Aquifers, and Ponds for Domestic Supply
The Big Book of Self-Reliant Living: Advice and Information on Just About...
Rainwater Catchment Systems for Domestic Supply: Design, Construction and...
Wells and Septic Systems

I have felt led this way as well and basically for the same reasons. I am not too concerned about myself, but I need to support my immediate family as that is my Biblical responsibility. In addition I have felt led to prepare in many different ways for other members of my family that do not have the means and are not saved.

Thanks ahead of time for your help and replies...... and if I am delusional.. please go ahead and tell me that too.... it would be a relief to know its just my crazy mind doing its thing......:hehee

I do not believe you are delusional, but maybe that is because I may be as well. :hehee

I have felt this way since the summer. From what I have read on some of the post, some are stocking some aren't. I'm one that is stocking and I feel led to do so. My thought is that the Rapture isn't to far away and if my stock pile isn't meant for my family to use, then it was meant to help someone who will be going through the tribulation.

I use the Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery
ed
It says: Practical advice, invaluable information, and collect wisdom for folks and farmers in the country, city, and anywhere in between. Includes how to culitivate a garden, buy land, bake bread, raise farm animals, make sausage, can peaches, milk a goat, grow herbs , churn butter, build a chicken coop, catch a pig, cook on a wood stove and much much more.
Some of the titles in the book are:
Pinch Pennies
create and live with renewable energy sources
deliver a baby alone
preserve and can your own food
make a quilting frame
prune a tree
bathe under primitive conditions
Raise chickens, and how to butcher them
make your own vinegar
treat bites and stings from ticks, snakes, and spiders.
and more:

Hope this helps a little.

Many on this board have the same feelings. We feel a pressing need to do this and to share what we know or have found.

There are several other threads on the board with great information. Check out "Budget Tight Buy Extra Supplies Now" (http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?t=36128) on the Ecology and Economics forum and "Stockpiling Food And Supplies For Emergency" in the Anything goes Forum http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?t=12176). Questions asked there are usually answered fairly promptly and the information is good.

I also use the End Times Report website for a lot of terrific information on survival from farming to self-protection to emergency medical information. You should check this out and the information is free. I have actually used their recipe for canning butter (I have over 20 pints sitting on my shelf in the basement - the butter is a bit grainy but still tastes good). The address for that one is http://www.endtimesreport.com/Site_Index.htm

Many of us have been stocking up on food and supplies as we can and as space in our homes allows. I also have some old cookbooks passed down from grandparents about cooking and making ends meet in the depression. I have The Little House Cookbook which describes how Laura Ingalls Wilder's family cooked in pioneer days. While they are not specific to survival, the Little House Books tell how people survived in pioneer days if you look closely.

Isn't a lot of this dependent on where you're living at? City dwellers or suburban folks simply haven't got a lot of options to go on. :(

There are still things that the city dweller and suburban dweller can do. Check out the two links I gave in my last post. There are suggestions in them on how people in the city/suburbs can provide and store. Also suggestions on gardening in containers!!! Check out Paul James, the gardener guy on HGTV, he has a lot of neat suggestions on gardening like this.
