A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.

To be sure, the concentrations of these pharmaceuticals are tiny, measured in quantities of parts per billion or trillion, far below the levels of a medical dose. Also, utilities insist their water is safe.

But the presence of so many prescription drugs — and over-the-counter medicines like acetaminophen and ibuprofen — in so much of our drinking water is heightening worries among scientists of long-term consequences to human health.

:faint This is very upsetting, to say the least.

Obviously this has been going on for decades already, which could possibly explain why there is such an increase in such things as, ADD, ADHD, Autism, premature labor, miscarriage, fertility problems, bi-polar disorders, ovarian cysts, etc.

I WANT TO GO HOME!!!!!!!! :rapture

Good grief! Does a filter take any of these things out? Anyone know? We drink all our water through a filtration system on our fridge.

I don't think so. They only filter specific things. That's why the providers haven't picked this up yet. They only test and filter for certain things.

They can't filter it out. The molecules of the drugs are too small. It's like taking vinegar and putting it through your Pur Filter. It comes out with
the rest of the gunk.

One of the main reasons they do nothing is because of the cost to filter this stuff out. It's REALLY expensive. They only mention that now because people have brought it to light. Pharmaceutical companies probably knew all along.

People have also questioned if chlorine is as safe as they say. It's common knowledge plants grow better from rain water versus chlorinated. Fish can't have chlorine in their water either, so you have to treat it or wait for the chlorine to evaporate out.
