Can anyone tell me what they know about this film?
I have heard some mention it as a great witnessing tool winning many to Christ.
However, I kind of always wonder about using "images" or "drama" instead of The Word for evengelism. However, maybe the movie is very biblical. Just looking for more info on it and people's opinion of it.
Great and biblical? Bogus and unbiblical? Neither?

hi. I was on a few mission trips where we used this film for outreach (evangelism) in third world countries. Now that time has passed and I've thought about it, I also wonder if it is biblical to use a film (images/drama). I believe we must use words, not images to share the gospel. But, the entirety of the movie, all the audio in it, is taken directly from the gospels. It seems to focus on Jesus' deity, his miracles, His love & forgiveness, and the cross (which is good!) and resurrection. I'm not sure if it clearly communicates the entirety of the gospel though. The thing I struggle with is that the folks who use this movie have a trailer at the end where they lead people to "pray the prayer"(ala four spiritual laws). I just don't believe one becomes a Christian by "praying the prayer", but through conviction of sin, repentance and faith in Jesus to save you. The film could be used with an gospel message or bibles could be given out for people to read on their own later.

Wow, pretty cool seeHimsoon :)
I've watched the JesusFilm a whole bunch of times, probably around 50 Lol's :)
The Movie is based on Luke's Gospel :)
It is a really good Biblical Movie! I have a link to the Film at the site below, where you can watch the movie for Free :)
I purchased the DVD, which is really cool. At the end of the DVD I think they go into a kind of lengthy salvation presentation maybe off of the movie and a Prayer for Salvation I think - It seems pretty good.
In the past they may of used the 4 Spiritual Laws and stuff, but the DVD I don't think utilizes that.
I remember when I first got saved I had some of those Yellow 4 Spiritual Laws Tracts :) Lol's - They were good Tracts :)
Maranatha :)

You know this is a big deal for me. I see lots of people in my church who have "asked Christ into their hearts" or "prayed the sinners prayer" and they really seem to be pretty far from saved. I know we don't judge the saved by externals, but these are people who perhaps intellectually understand Christ as savior but have not in any way submitted to Him as Lord. They are living for themselves and its very concerning.
And of course coming out of the Catholic tradition, I am always wary of any use of images of Christ for anything, which may be a bit narrow. Its to close to the second commandment for me....

I really don't even know why the question has been asked as to whether it is "ok" to use a movie to portray the Gospel... Why the heck not? If we can use an EvangeCube to share the Gospel, or an online Christian website, why not a video? TheJesusFilm people go to countries all over the world to show this film to share the Gospel, people who may not be able to read or may not have a Bible in their own language.
I believe we should use whatever we can to portray the Gospel to every person that will listen!!!!

You said it, hilhill! :thumb
The Gospel of John is a fantastic movie, BTW. I have the 3-hour version, which is divided into 2 discs. I've watched it repeatedly.

My understanding is that The Hope is an upgraded version of God's Story. I've watched The Hope a couple of times and I like the way they go through the Bible and the way they present the issues.
