The older I get the more I realize that there is a reason that God teaches us things "little by little". There are things I could not fully understand until I experienced them.

Until I became a mother, I couldn't fully understand the depths that love could seep down into one's heart. I couldn't fully understand how selfish desires could so easily take a back seat to personal sacrifice. I couldn't fully grasp the pain a mother feels to see her child hurt.

As I watched the following video, not only was I reminded of how much the Lord truly loves us, I began to relate to what Mary must have been going through to see her firstborn son go through such pain and suffering. My heart wept for her. As a mother, I now can relate to that pain. I know that she would have easily given her life for her son. It is this kind of love - the love of a mother - that gives us a small glimpse of God's love. Yet, it is the death of God's own Son that brings His love into full perspective.

As we enter into the Easter season, I pray that we are reminded of the depths of God's love for us. I pray that we realize the deep value of the price that Jesus Christ paid. I pray too that through a mother's eyes, we might relate to a side of the Cross we don't give much thought to - the personal cost of following Christ.

Grace and Peace to you.
