using scripture to back up his claim he says that happiness, prosperity and world peace are all achievable by man through science and technology, it's the current institutions that are keeping man in the state it's in and causing men to hate and kill each other. oh and It's Charlie Chaplin 68 years ago by the way.

I just saw this and at first I was thinking "wow that sounds nice" then i realized the character was trying to promise things that only god will be able to provide through the power of men. It strikes me as the sort of powerful uplifting hopeful speech someone would give when the world is in turmoil and is looking to anyone to give it stability. *cough* the Antichrist after the rapture *cough*

I'm not saying i think Charlie Chaplin is evil, during that era (and even now) those ideas must have been very comforting to people. I just see this appeal to mankind's wish for peace being a way control and a shift in world politics could be achieved by the Antichrist.

True - it just means Chaplin fell for the devil's lie of thinking it would be great if mankind could do what only God can. I felt the same way in high school before getting saved.

Of course, while Charlie Chaplin wasn't evil, I did read where Hitler admired that silent movie star, and that's why he wore that funny little mustache, it was much like Chaplin's.

(Jay Leno voice on)
Now here's what I don't understand. If this Hitler guy says he admires a silent movie star so much...why doesn't he just SHUT UP?!":aha:hat

I think I remember my mom & dad telling me that Chaplin was a communist.

Charlie Chaplin lived in the shadow of two world wars that killed a hundred million between them - he can be forgiven for thinking the worse of nation states. :(
