View Full Version : Ethanol Gasoline?

Does anyone here know very much about the ethanol gasoline?

My DH is a truck driver that hauls and delivers gasoline to all the gas stations.
This ethanol is a "joke" that the government is PUSHING on to us.
Let me explain what my DH has to do:
First he has to go to one place and fill up with 90% gasoline. Then he has to drive to a 2nd place and fill the remaining 10% with ethanol. (Talk about extra fuel usage and time! :doh) Anyway, when he gets to the store he is delivering to, the store has to close down all the pumps and allow no one to fill their cars while he is filling their tanks. When he is thru, the station can't allow to open their pumps for another 30 minutes! So the stations can't sell any gasoline for maybe one to one & half hours! :scratch The customers are so angry!!!!!! My DH is so angry!!!!! However the government is giving these stations an extra 7 cents per gallon if they will use this gasoline/ethanol mix.

By the way did you know that ethanol is nothing more than MOONSHINE?

That's right, pure alcohol. And it can't be piped underground because it is so powerful that it will EAT & CORRODE the pipes.
I DO NOT WANT THIS STUFF IN MY CAR!!!!:tsk
We have heard that if you have an "older vehicle that this stuff is ruining them. Gee, do ya think the car companies are in "cahoots". If your car is ruined then you have to go buy a new one!!
Oh and by the way, the government says that any station that has 10% or less of anything else in the gas, they do not have to let anyone know.
I think it ought to mandatory that ALL stations post a sign letting their customers know whether or not their gasoline has ethanol in it or not! I think it should be my choice if I want to put this in my vehicle or not!

AND how much more does my DH need to charge extra for the time and fuel to go to a 2nd stop?!?!?! The circle never ends :panic

Come quickly Lord Jesus :pray

I kinda know some about it. I am a car nut so alt fuels are interesting to me, but only for the fact that I want to get away from high priced gas. I am a firm believer that oil is a renewable resource. "if it aint broke, dont fix it"

I agree with you 90% that Ethanol is a waste of time because your mpg are greatly decreased as well as the cost per gallon increased. However pure ethanol is bad for alot of cars but if you put this stuff in a high output performance engine, i.e.: turbo charged or something with alot of compression, then your engine will just love this stuff!:thumb
let me know if you want to know more:hat

I know this- MPG in my wife's truck falls from about 18-20 with the 'regular' gas to 12-13 on ethanol making it noticeably more expensive until there is a differential of over $.80/gal- that's about our break even point, using estimated math.

I also know it costs a lot more to produce than it puts out and actually causes more pollution to produce so the enviros are losing all the way around. We already know it is killing the food situation, I understand that if every available acre of land were producing corn for bio-fuel, it would still only supply about 10-12% of our consumption...hmmmm. I wish I could remember the source on that.

I further know that it is more corrosive, but the newer vehicles that are dual fuel compensate. The fuel lines and components are better equipped for it and the computers have to compensate as well for proper mixture that it doesn't cause the engine to run too rich or lean.

I personally wish we would go back to true leaded 100% gasoline and go the hybrid route. That is a CONSERVATIONIST step I could stand behind...

Thanks:)
I have also heard that the ethanol will decrease the mpg. This is just insane! We will have to purchase more fuel quicker and at a higher price.
I'm sorry, I just don't get our government sometimes! :scratch

Thanks:)...I'm sorry, I just don't get our government sometimes!Actually I think government people are mostly reacting to perceived "public" pressure (although the gov't does have its share of ideologues). Doesn't the way most media treat these subjects have an influence, and why do most people believe the media?

[B]...That's right, pure alcohol. And it can't be piped underground because it is so powerful that it will EAT & CORRODE the pipes...There are plenty of chemicals more corrosive so we must be careful to not exaggerate here. Also, if it can't be piped, it's possible the existing underground pipeline was made of inadequate materials and they're being cautious (I don't know and I didn't research this).

i know there is a huge difference between the mileage and performance running on E85.you will also have to use a synthetic motor oil because the alcohol in the fuel in E85 will cause a lubrication failure.natural oil is cut and thinned by the high amount of alcohol and will not lubricate as it should.a quality synthetic also costs more, besides the drop in fuel economy.ye,high compression and forced induction (turbo, supercharging) loves the stuff though, and yes,it's highly corrosive so it can harm fuel systems that are not properly set up to run alcohol.this being ethenol or methenol.
