I dont know if this has been brought up before but its new to me so I thought I would post it.

I came across an article on the best method to clean fruits and veggies. I use vinegar in cleaning and bringing freshness to sponges and stuff and taking out odors but had no idea about this use

What a great idea! I use an apple cider vinegar rinse to remove residue from my hair (hairspray, dandruff, etc.), so I guess it would work great for removing icky stuff from fruits and veggies also. :thumb

Thanks for this article. 4 out of 5 times I eat broccoli, I get sick. I'm going to try the vinegar soak.

I've always just rinsed stuff off under water. So far, so good. Lettuce always worries me though.

I scrub my stainless steel sink and dump in ALL my veggies at once for the vinegar soak, only I do about a cup or two of vinegar to water. I soak for about 30 minutes swishing the water around as I prep my storage bowls. You will be TOTALLY grossed out by how grimey the water becomes. Take veggies onto ther side of sink, drain icky water, refill with clean and soak again.

My veggie colors stay bright and crisp, they taste fantastic, and I have less invasions of mold ;)

You got a picture of the yucky water??LOL:twitch

I wonder if my giant Tupperware bowl would work. I have two, so I could soak in one and rinse in the other.

I am going to have to try this. Do they last longer?

Wife, for you I will take a pic next veggie soak day. :nod

I do genuinely believe they last longer. I make veggie bowls outta my tupperware for quick snack grabs, I like to have salads ready to eat to as well. It helps me avoid the naughty foods I keep around for hubs and kids.

In my own opinion, the wash/soak gets rid of molds and bacteria spores that the vegs pick up in transit that male them spoil faster.

The biggest difference is in broccoli. I couldn't eat it there for awhile because the chemical taste would numb my mouth :twitch no matter how much I rinsed. The vinegar gets whatever that is off and I'm all good now :thumb

I've always used just a little dish soap then rinse well. I never tried vinegar, does it leave any taste behind?
