Will someone explain to me exactly what this means? I don't know the reference, but I have heard it said to me over and over again through the years, and I want it explained to me in "layman's terms."

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (King James Version)

3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I think this reference explains itself pretty much.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The corinthians says what we should do with our minds, the phillipians tells us how.

Excellent question, one sorely overlooked ... for me what I had to learn to do, is realize we are creatures of habit... if something is on tv we dont like we change the channel.... but if an unholy and bad thought pops into our head ...:popcorn when we could instead bring it to subjection ... like no bad thought you are NOT going to rule over me, I am gonna rule over you! Saith the scripture and saith the Lord! So take it captive, rule over it, and in time you will find it becomes a 'habit' to think only on what is good,

Finally my brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are noble, meditate on these things.

when you are out in public and you are guarding your thoughts, people around you can look at you funny cuz you dont laugh at their dirty joke, or you dont laugh at the sexual enuendos thrown around, and if you even show the slightest detesting of it aside from not laughing, you get ridiculed.

It is not easy to bring every thought captive. But with God all things are possible, Praise be to God in the Highest, the Mighty God Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
