View Full Version : Too Much Sensationalism in Breaking News

I'm not able to get on here as much as maybe a lot of other folks, but have been more so since December with some extra down time, and probably much less so for the next several months. I think the Rapture Ready message board is a great resource and there are great people here.
My only criticism is what I consider the over abundance of purely sensational, scandulous and questionable postings related to a whole host of crimes and twisted, bizzare stories. I also notice that more often than not, they recieve far more comments and viewings than core prophetic issues and subjects.
No need to list them, because there are any number of them on here at any given time. After Breaking News was down for a couple of days I notice that it's now becoming full of the same, tired, pointless posts. Yes, we know people are sinking lower and lower on a daily basis, but this is not the National Enquirer. People are readily corrected on here for their biblical views, I think the same needs to be applied to sensational postings.

We've moved some of the articles out of that forum. :)

I actually started coming to the boards months before I joined FOR the breaking news... I had visited Rapture Ready for years and always went to the news section there for updates.
Some people (including me) are news junkies and enjoy discussing articles with like-minded fellow Christians. Sometimes it even puts different perspectives onto things for me.

My definition of 'Breaking News' is not an endless stream of exactly what I described. I seem to recall there had been a similar posting addressing this problem on here somewhere? from an administrator. Maybe that's breaking news to some people, I just think it's taking up too much space and serving a poor example.

Hmmmm? Is there a way to separate News and Breaking News?

This is page 1 of this forum. Go back to page 3 and read my post called "Consider changing one of your rules" and you will see Buzz's answer on this question.

This is from the Rules:

[02] No graphic pictures, news articles, or links to violence, nudity, or semi-nude photos or videos. No posting sexual stories, gruesome crimes, or any other sick mutilation related stories, this type of news is not the objective of this board, we recognize we are living in the last 'Days of Noah'. Matthew 24:37-38 Keep it clean.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, my brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think on these things.

We do remove many articles that you describe so we don't start looking like the National Enquirer, and we have the following rule:
[02] No graphic pictures, news articles, or links to violence, nudity, or semi-nude photos or videos. No posting sexual stories, gruesome crimes, or any other sick mutilation related stories, this type of news is not the objective of this board, we recognize we are living in the last 'Days of Noah'. I think those posts are more frequent when world news is "slow". :scratch If you ever question a post, just click on the little "policeman" on the upper right corner, it's hard for us to see and cover each and every post made on the forum, so this helps us a lot. :thumb
