View Full Version : Hagee: Revelation "Great Whore" cannot refer to the Catholic Church
Final Trumpet

I told him that when I Googled "Great Whore" and Revelation, the first six hits were explicitly anti-Catholic Web sites. He then explained why, in his interpretation of the Book of Revelation, the "Great Whore" cannot refer to the Catholic Church: In Hagee's eschatology, the end times begin with the Rapture, when all those who are truly in Christ will be taken up to heaven. Hagee says, "Since both Catholics and Protestants are taken up to Heaven, how could the 'Great Whore' be the Catholic Church? The apostate church is left on earth during the seven years of tribulation -- that is the 'Great Whore.'"

I'm sure some Catholics will be Raptured but not all 2 billion or whatever they have. And I thought Hagee was always very anti Rome. :idunno

Hagee's own words in print regarding the Great Whore:
"The evidence would point to Rome...It was Rome where Nero wrapped Christians in oily rags and hung them on lampposts, setting them ablaze to light his gardens. It was Rome that orchestrated the Crusades where Jews were slaughtered...It was Rome that orchestrated the Inquisitions throughout the known world where "heretics" were burned at the stake or pulled in half on torture racks because they were not Roman Catholic." (pp. 10-11)
From Daniel to Doomsday (1999) by John Hagee
I think Hagee needs to make up his mind what he believes and stop trying to cater to every religion out there. He seems to backtrack on everything he says when he comes under criticism. Very wishy-washy, IMO. :tsk

Hagee recently endorsed McCain to the chagrin of Catholics, especially the Catholic League president (Donohue feller). So this is probably his way of "making up" for his past anti-RCC remarks so it doesn't harm McCain, IMHO. Still doesn't make it right, of course, but just speculation.

He needs to get the separation between the RCC system and those believers caught up in it clear in his mind. There will no doubt be many churches left after the rapture. They will then start to come together.
