ORLANDO, Fla. - The noted Colorado State University forecast team expects an above-average Atlantic hurricane season and may raise its prediction of 13 tropical storms and seven hurricanes when it updates its outlook next week, the team's founder Bill Gray said Wednesday.
La Nina cool-water conditions in the Pacific and higher sea surface temperatures in the eastern Atlantic are contributing to enhanced conditions for hurricane activity, Gray told Reuters at the U.S. National Hurricane Conference.
"We're expecting an above average season," Gray said. "The big question we have is, are we going to raise the numbers from our December forecast? We might."

After the complete miss during the last two years forecasts, I'm taking their predictions with a grain of salt. I believe God purposely made fools of them these last two years to remind them who is actually in control.

I think you hit the nail on the head and couldnt agree more. I am a property adjuster and have basically stopped reading those articles. They may have a clue to the weather but they dont have the answer or the control.
Something to consider too, is that when people listen to their predictions (at least used to) of so many hurricanes hitting land, etc.... it also increased spending by the consumers in that area... and allowed retailers to maintain or raise prices..... people would go out and buy storm preparations, from batteries to hurricane shutters, etc. I think the media and/or retailers use this stuff to play with the market and get people to buy more. Since they have failed so miserably in the past two years, it probably wont have the "push" it has had before..... except for maybe people who have just recently moved to Florida and other hurricane prone areas.... many others are tuning them out at this point....

Amen! How can they call themselves "experts" and miss so badly on more than one occasion. I think that they always predict above average storms to cover their behinds. Can you imagine what would happen if they predicted a "quiet" hurricane season and all heck breaks loose? Many insurance companies would probably go after them legally.:tinfoil

An educated guess is just that, a guess. I wish with all this modern technology that they would get a little better but it is the small things they will never be able to forecast... the timing of one front meeting another and how they interact, the strength of a storm includes so many variables that they will never be able to predict the strength until the storm forms and is in the short-term.
Charlie and Wilma taught us that...not to mention the last 3 days have been polar opposite of forecast, so the short term wx is even sketchy.
all I can say is yuck.

I'm still waiting for some of that Global Warming to take effect up here in Oregon. Just a little would be nice. :hat

Yeah every year I hear 2 things:
1. This year will have more active hurricanes
2. This winter will be colder than ever
