Hi everyone,

My sister has a bunch of interviews tomorrow and she wants me to watch her eight-month-old son for a couple of hours while she conducts her business. I love children, but I've never watched a baby by myself and I was wondering if there's anything I should be aware of, things to keep him entertained, etc. She's terrified that I can't handle him. I figure it can't be THAT difficult...

when you change his diaper, quickly cover the front!

LOL

You can sing, read, dance..........blow on his belly to make weird noises. Play where are you eyes? nose? ears? tummy? mouth?

Tell him about Jesus...............never too early to start

play peek a boo..............

Have fun and get lots of slobbery kisses and hugs.

I have a one-yr-old son, and you would be surprised at how much of parenting is just plain ol' common sense! Keep an eye on the little guy at all times. Babies are amused by the simplest things, including boxes, old magazines, wooden spoons, tupperware, etc. They like to be sung to and read to and talked to! If he cries, he is either hungry, tired, or needs a diaper change. You'll do fine! :hug

Never take your eyes off him unless in his crib - they are quick to get into trouble.
LOL definately cover the front immediately when changing diapers!

Keep pacifier and bottles ready. Burp him when needed and always keep a towel on your shoulder or lap. Never know when he's going to burp up stuff.

Anything you give him must be safe to chew on, light weight and pretty colors also keep attention. If your lucky enough, he might actually sleep for you.

LOL! How hard can it be? Well that depends on the baby and their moods!!

Have fun!!! :thumb

Good advice and put ALL breakables, dangerous objects, etc. up and away while he is there.. EVERYTHING goes into their mouth at this age!:thumb

ALSO find out what he can eat and not eat.. Like are cheerios okay for munching on, etc.

Ok, I know you are looking for serious advice but this is too funny! I just couldn't help but post it. :heh

This is a Spanish collection of educational pictures detailing the Do's and Don't's of caring for a baby. As I scrolled through this I felt myself going, wait, you mean the Jose' Quervo was a bad idea?

Well now they tell me! :doh :aha

Thanks sooooo much for the advice. I'm taking notes! I can't wait to spend time with him. Babies are so precious.

Oh, where can find baby toys made in America? He doesn't have any toys and I feel really bad about that. I want to get him some.

Oh, where can find baby toys made in America? He doesn't have any toys and I feel really bad about that. I want to get him some.
You can check at Toys 'R Us, Babies 'R Us, and Wal-Mart, but you will need to go online first to see what brands are made in USA before you start shopping. Also, you might want to check with your sister to see if she has any preferences in what you pick out for him. That is a very sweet thought that you want him to have some toys, but like one of the earlier posters stated, at this age they are content with Tupperware containers, pots and pans, etc., that you already own.
Also: Repeating the advice to keep your eyes on him at all times. When he's in a crib, make sure that the crib is not too close to any windows that might have blind cords that he could get tangled up in. Check your floors for coins, pins, dried beans, medication of any kind, etc. that might have fallen onto the floor. Your love for him will likely keep him in your sights, but these are just some reminders from some of us experienced 'Grandmas' who post here.
