The people whom I have talked to (who are not Christians) realize that the economy is bad and that food prices are going up, but they don't see it as bad as I do.... For instance, my fil said that he has never seen Canadian money being worth more then ours.....and he says that is bad, but he still thinks we can pull through it all...when do you think it will get as bad as you all are talking about? I think someone wrote that it would happen in the fall.... what do you all think? and why? I really need to start preparing for this....I have been in denial because we finally have been doing so good (only because I prayed and God loved me so much he helped us out)....but I am finally starting to wonder if I should start preparing....I usually cut my boys hair and today I had my oldest son's and mine cut today and it cost me $30 and to me that is a lot(i just got mine trimmed)..it seems lots of things are going up and it is a little alarming...

I think a lot of people have their heads in the sand, and in the back of my mind I am wondering if some that know/feel the economy is going to crash, but figure they are going to "go out in style". My brother's business is booming right now, he does (expensive) woodworking for homes (he did Chuck Norris' study/library).
On the Canadian note...I read somewhere that there was talk that Canada was going to call in America's debt? :scratch
Also, two years ago I started cutting my boys hair myself, go to Target and pick up a pair of clippers, they are only around $20 and easy to use. My hair is long and I only need the ends trimmed off, so I let my boys trim mine and I trim my neighbors. :thumb Hey, if you get good you could cut your neighborhood boys' hair for $5 a pop and make some extra $$$. :lol2

...I usually cut their hair, but I thought I thought this might be fun....forget that....I wish I knew how to sew like my mom does...she used to make all of our clothes....(i hated it though)....but now, with the prices of everthing going up...i would be more then willing to wear those clothes again!

cbressler1976 I think it will be here sooner then later. If you are going to put extra food back I would do it right away. As prices keep going up it will be harder to get extra back.

Well said and me too- doing my boy's hair saves me $30 a month.
I can't understand why people don't get it that the economy can not physically recover- it is not possible, not with all the financial "instruments" created out of nothing, backed by nothing, and worth less...not to mention the $567 TRILLION derivative bubble, that NO ONE dare talk about on the tube... That's the total GDP of the US for 11 years!!!! We are caught in a crumbling Ponzi scheme with few friends left and nothing to bargain with, financially.
That is not gloom and doom, it's real. Those that wish to put on Polly-annish airs can do so at their own peril. I do believe the Lord will show us glimpses of what is on its way and lead each into his own actions accordingly. It is all joy though, His calling is imminent! The elephant in the room can not be ignored regardless.

My experience and honest belief is that God is ever seeking to teach us in the way of faith and in our training in the faith life there must be room for the trial of faith..
Thats how I approach what is going now in terms of where our economy is sitting..there are very real conditions that are with us that are very serious and it would be very unwise to ignore them given what they are..
For me, it simply comes down to can I afford to be wrong if I ignore them..and is there any biblical basis that speaks to this. On any level does God ever say planning for such times as what can possibly happen given the set of the current circumstances, either wrong or sinful?
For myself, my experience when it comes to matters of faith..God has pretty clearly stipulated to understand that there will be trials, and from them we gain discipline of faith, the patience of faith, the courage of faith and often many stages are passed before we realize at the end of faith, is the victory of faith.
So it is by faith I approach what is going on and specifically why I prepare in areas I am led to because of prayerful consideration, I am being led to by faith, not driven by fear at all..no gloom and doom but the rewards of knowing God's faithfulness in everything..INCLUDING among many trials..very rough economic times.
I hope I am wrong, I take no comfort in the possibilities of being right in the sense I do not want to see things grow worse..but if we really examine our scriptures, my humble 2 cents worth is that while God can and sometimes does take us out of a situation, problem or needs..there are other times he takes us through them.
The point here being we can indeed trust Him as our ever-present helper and guide. As it was pointed out prices are going up..and this no longer about just responding to the 'what if's" the folks who accuse me of being a gloom and doomer of losing touch with my faith..this is IMHO simply about the "what are's"..and not allowing my pride to get in the way here over who is in control!
Eight years ago, I invested in a set of hair clippers for my youngest son and told him God was going to help him get his college degree with those..and he laughed at me and said, "BUT MOM>>>>God used the loves of bread and fish didn't He?" and I said.."BUT SON>>>Remeber Luke 1:45 Blessed is she who believes that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished."
Funny thing about a college and fashion trends....just when short hair styles become the rage..a hair cut rises in price..and college students are almost always broke..so my son became the official barber in his dorm, and word got out that he was the cheapest barber in town.. he cleared over $30.00 an hour charging under $5.00 a hair cut..and that added up..over the course of the semester..do the math for just ten hours a week of work.. ...LOL!!!! That and he had a chance to share the word of God with every soul that came looking for 'a deal' during 'hard economic times"...:lol2
Wisdom should always be practical and practiced:hat

It's probably a good a idea to ALWAYS be in a state of preparation, especially when things are good (as you mention they are for you right now).
As for this inevitable crash of the U.S. economy, perhaps it will, perhaps it won't. The big question is to determine just HOW you should prepare. After all, if you honestly believe the economy is going to crash and not recover, there really isn't much sense in saving American dollars. Perhaps you'd be wise to store up precious metals. Then again, if the economy crashes and the U.S. is plunged into a state of chaos, I don't know how you'll get your precious metal from the bank (after the government seizes is, which it basically did during the Great Depression).
I understand there are some on this board who expect the abslote worst. While I certainly understand their sentiment, I do not share their outlook. It is my opinion that things are still cyclical, though I readily admit we're experiencing financial events that are unprecedented, but that argument essentially applies to every economy cycle we've ever experienced. Hence, we're always in uncharted waters...at least to some degree.
In the mean time, I applaud your efforts at saving money whereever you can. Whether it's haircuts, buying food in bulk, whatever...we should always seek to be wise stewards and save where we can.
Remember, the one thing that remains constant is change. Even when the forecast calls for rain...sunny skies are imminent. The U.S. economy is a mess, as I'm sure all would agree. But this is no reason to assume it can't get better or be fixed. It's possible that the bottom will have to fall out before we make amends, but I don't think all is lost.
And despite the constant harping on our fiat currency and national debt, they do have their benefits. Alexander Hamilton even said, "A national debt is a blessing." THe point is, there is a great deal more to this issue than most are willing to address.

I've heard other people on ths board say they feel they have been led to stockpile food and etc, and I never felt it, until the last 2 weeks or so.
I'm finally feeling a big need to start storing up non-perishables on sale, to start fishing (i'm really not much into fishing, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do) and freezing or canning the fish, and I really feel the need to learn how to use my pressure cooker, (I know how to can though) and start filling up those empty jars that I'm storing.
And I'm looking forward to hubby getting another deer this fall.
Even if worse doesn't come to worse, the past 2 to 3 years, since my husband has had his own business, ,,,we have suffered in the winter months so bad financially, the extra food would have helped to get us by.
My brother delivers milk for the dairy farmers, and I was reading a newspaper they put out, (I think they have a website too, milkweed.com, or something like that) Anyways, the newspaper had detailed information about all the food hikes, gas hikes, and whats in store for us, it was a very interesting paper! Opened my eyes a little more to whats going on.

Another thing my brother and my aunt and I have been discussing, that, if worse comes to worse, we might need to consider moving in with each other. They live a couple hours north, and I know we all are happy with our locations, but its something we want to be open-minded about. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I for sure want to be open to the idea. Everytime I think about it, I laughingly think about South Fork Ranch on that nighttime soap opera "Dallas" They had a few families living together, and they were rich!
(although none of us have a house like that!)

I have been telling my DH this for a couple of months! Only my description is living like the 'Waltons". :aha I really think it may come to this for some families. Our house is only a 2 bedroom and not paid for! But my inlaws is a 3 bedroom and PAID IN FULL! And beleive it or not I love my inlaws!
Sidenote: We cut our own hair. I even color my own hair. I ALWAYS get compliments on the color everywhere I go! So it can't be too bad. All the women in my office pay $100.00 to have their hair cut and colored! :faint There is no way I would shell out that much money a month! (And trust me you can't tell they paid that much just by looking at them!:tape )
