Does anybody understand repairing clothes' dryers? My wife and I just moved and our dryer worked perfect before the move. She tried to dry some things night before last and the dryer works fine, but "it will not get hot at all"(it's a 220v),so I wondered if something got shook loose ,maybe,in the move?I have an electrical/electronics background, but I'm not at all familiar with repairing a dryer. We really can't afford a repairman just now,so I wondered if anybody has any ideas? Thanks in advance and God bless.....

The exact thing happened to our dryer when we moved. I really don't know why. My husband ended up replacing the heating element himself. He unplugged it first from the wall of course. We heard in the news not too long ago, a local man didn't unplug the dryer from the wall and was electrocuted. So, please do unplug it completely. Anyway, we had the manual that came with the dryer and fortunately it showed where the element would be. He took the back off and swapped out the element. It wasn't all that difficult thank goodness. I really can't figure out why it stopped heating unless it was just hanging on by a wing and a prayer and the move just finally did it in.:idunno

Thanks so much,Run2Jesus:thankyou2.That's exactly what I thought it was the more I thought about it-the heating element, because everything else works fine. You just confirmed it and we don't have the manual, but I can figure it out with my background.I can probably look it up on the internet, but the heating element will be easy to find. You helped answer our prayer-God bless you and I'll be seeing you on other threads:nod!truthseeker815

When you moved did you put the dryer into a van that went over bumps on a road? if so something might have been smashed inside or knocked about, my advice, get it fixed or hit it HARD a number of times. I hit my broken electrical things and they work again. :hehee

The elements that heat dryers and such become fragile after hours of use. The jarring possibly caused an open in the coil. Other than checking the inner connections which may have jarred loose, that is all I can think of. Check element before purchasing new one to see if it meets the resistance requirements for that element:) That is about all one might do to my knowledge,LOL:)

And if that doesn't work, just shoot the troublesome dryer.:heh

I bet the heating element cracked in the move, I even managed to replace mine with no book, I figured I couldn't break any worse than it was:aha It was easy once I looked at it. My dryer was actin up last week, just taking longer than usual, I pulled it out and the hose thing was crimped. I cleaned it and straightened it and Ta Da ..... Works good YAY

If you loose one of your phases your dryer won't get hot either. It needs 220v for the element to get hot. It only needs 110v to spin the tub. Make sure your dryer has 220v at the receptacle. Also check the plug wire where it hooks into the dryer to make sure nothing came loose.

Hi Truthseeker! I really hope everything turns out with your dryer. Please let us know if it did. We like to fix everything ourselves when we can. It makes you feel pretty good when you can have the satisfaction of knowing you can~~not to mention saving money on an unnecessary service call. Of course, sometimes like with the A/C it takes it. Well, I hope again, all goes well! God bless!
