I know predictions are not always right, but I always take interest in them since I may be affected by hurricanes....

They've been dead wrong, embarassingly so, for the past 2 years.

we are still in a La Nina which cools down the pacific and causes lots of wind shear in the Caribbean. Wind shear is the one of the main hurrican killers. I love these guessing games, only wish I was getting paid as much as these climatologist to be as wrong and could still keep my job. Living in a hurrican pron area it always pays to be prepared for any kind of weather and not rely upon the generosity of our government. I have two sump pumps that operate off of AC & DC battery back up, and I have had protective film put on my windows along with ply wood shutters that can be put up in a moments notice that helps in the event of flying objects banging off my house. (the shutters are numbered for each different window and the holes have been pre-drilled along with studs projecting from the house which allow me to bolt and screw in the shutters) The film helps keep the window together incase of breakage and also gives it more flexablility for presure differentials. I hope never to have a direct hit but I'm prepared just the same.

Didn't we hear this last year?

In 2004 we Floridians were hit by 4 hurricanes within 6 weeks! 3 hit us directly. Since then they have been predicting above average number of hurricanes every year. Katrina hit FL before it hit New Orleans and Mississippi. It sat over FL long enough to cause massive flooding.

After that year it has been relatively quiet as far as hurricanes go... their predictions have been wrong. But let me tell you, they MAY BE right this time! I'm taking into account what our President's plans are for Israel! So yes, this could definitely be a bad hurricane season.:tsk
Our roof is still torn up so bad from 2004. The only way it could withstand a fourth direct hit, would be for God Himself to hold it down for us.:pray

You know, I wouldn't mind having a few..say 3 or 4...good cat 2 or 3 storms come right across us again. But they need to be the kind with lots of rain in them! We still need to much rain here and the last time we had 3 of them in a row it did the ground so good!

:thumb Exactly! It's easy for people not affected by hurricane's to dismiss the forecasters...

I have a friend in Lake County who told me that over there you didn't get it too bad? But here, the eye of Charlie went right directly through us, and man oh man! A tornado tore out the side of our house, then out neighbors house. After Charlie was gone, we couldn't believe our neighborhood, our roof, our trees (all gone). Power poles and lines laying across the streets, trees IN neigbors homes. And 3-6 weeks was not fun without electric!:ohno No A/C, no fans, no hot water, etc.

Ice was nowhere to be found. Gas was nowhere to be found. So evil people were stealing it from everyones cars!

I wanted to move out of FL after the third hurricane hit. I was starting to go a bit:hehee It was too scarey to sleep with windows open due to anything from a huge disgusting Palmetto bug to a disgusting sodomite coming in! So it was 95 degrees inside with 95% humidity. UGH! And no ice/cold drinks!

In FL your cold water comes out at about 80 degrees from the tap. :groan

There were wicked people wandering the streets looking to do something...WICKED. The cops kept showing up with canine units and asking if we'd seen some guy who had just commited some crime. We couldn't see a thing! Outside was pitch black! We'd just see shadows.:hide

The stores had no power and then when they did, the shelves were empty. And FINALLY when after a week without power, they turned it back on, and THE NEXT DAY THE SECOND HURRICANE HIT! Frances! :rant

Another week without power! Finally got power restored, and Jeanne hit! :frust

I DON'T WANT ANYMORE HURRICANES! :gaah

LOL Lake County is BIG and it depends where you live in it to what you got. We had it bad here with no ice, no food, no power, chaos everywhere, but the benefits we had from it outweighed the weeks of bad stuff. Just my opinions though, I've lived here all my life and they just don't really bother me all that much. I know when to stay and I know when to leave. Maybe it's the storm lover in me LOL
