considering what I see with the Purpose Driven SBC church called Westsid Church of Omaha Nebraska doing, this dont surprise me

A Picture of Where the SBC Is Headed

I was recently saddened by this article.

http://www.christianindex.org/4296.article

I think the content and purpose of what the article is about will come across at first glance as good and productive.

But when your really read it the article seems to shed some light on where the church as a whole within the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) is headed.

Lee appears to be apologizing for Christian's view that homosexuality, shacking up, abortion is a sin.

Well.. He appears, to me, to be apologizing for being pharasaical towards unbelievers and having a snobby, holier than thou, attitude towards them.. which I agree with. He said he believes the Bible to be 100% truth. Nowhere did he say that he felt abortion and homosexuality isn't a sin.

Unless we start LOVING (1 Cor 13) these people, we are going to continue to be seen as hypocrites and judgmental bigots. If we only see people as "homosexuals" or "murderers", they can pick up on that and sense it and will not listen to a word you have to say, regardless of whether it is 100% Truth or not.

Go to the website, listen to the message, compare to other teachers.

Pastor Richard Mark Lee said the apology for intolerance and “getting in the way of Jesus” was long overdue and was needed in a world polarized by the Christian church

“getting in the way of Jesus :twitch:twitch:scratch

Lee quoted from “Unchristian,” a book recently released by the Barna Research Group, which reported that in a scientific poll 18-28 year-olds perceived the Church as “judgmental, homophobic, and irrelevant

Well, THERE'S Emergent language!

George Barna, is founder and president of Barna Group, a full-service marketing research company in Glendale, California... He works with corporations such as Disney, Focus on the Family and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as well as Fuller and mega churches. CHURCH GROWTH MOVEMENT.

I take great exception to this man's statement, "a picture of where the SBC is headed". I have belonged to various Southern Baptist Churches for over 25 years now, and NOT ONE of them was "headed" in the wrong direction!

In fact, in recent years, the SBC has gotten MORE conservative - that is why there was a break-off with churches that were more moderate (a PC term for churches who thought the SBC was too heavy-handed in their belief in the inerrancy of the scriptures, literal interpretation of the Bible, the virgin birth and other cornerstones of the christian faith). It is very unfair and very judgemental, and, in my opinion, very irresponsible for this blogger to make this statement.
