Here is my challenge to Mark Driscoll's defenders who visit this thread: can you, in your conscience as informed by God's Holy Spirit, endorse this congregation's approach in whole of part using the Beatles to "springboard a discussion" about the gospel's "relevancy" to the Scriptures?
Can you believe that it is today's world judging the Bible without sacrifijng your position on doctrinal orthodoxy?

Hey, weren't the Beatles deeply into drugs, trance the Hare Khrisnas and every Eastern Hinduistic/Buddhist practice? What could they EVER say that would be even .00000001% close to the Gospel? Just another example of the Purpose Driven get 'em seats filled Christianity and more proof that the end is coming and it's not long before He comes back. Even so, come Lord Jesus.

I am becoming very disturbed and disappointed by what I am reading in these posts. Nowhere does it give any content to this sermon - yet some here feel it is okay to judge this pastor and his church simply by a snippet on a website. But's what worse is that I went to this site where billiefan found the reference and I had to laugh! What a silly, judgemental site.
From what I saw, there is NO WAY you could know what the sermon was about or what the Pastor preached on. The beatles once remarked that "they were more popular than Jesus Christ." How do you know that the Pastor wasn't going to contrast what the beatles believed about themselves with what Jesus taught?
I looked through that website, sliceoflaodecia, and I discovered that almost all the thread titles come straight from this site. It seems everything there is posted by one woman - talk about a lack of discernment - you guys are just parroting everything she posts and I find it disturbing.
Much of what is said on that site reminds me of the Fundamental, Independent Baptist churches that I know of that are soooooo legalistist and judgemental. Reminds me of the Pharisees of Jesus day!
I know I'm going to be criticized for my beliefs - but that's okay. I've been a christian for 40 years and I've seen a lot. I just feel that maybe some of you should spend less time criticizing and judging other christians and more time working on your own christian walk.

I am too. Disturbed how some can defend these practices and stand against contending for Truth and for the Faith. But maybe I am in the wrong and should abandon my Berean tendencies and just follow the rest of the crowd. I think their motto is "Do as though wilt, that is the whole extent of the law"...
Oh, and the quote was from Aliester Crowley who the Beatles were admirers of... :tsk

Where did I say we shouldn't stand for truth or contend for the faith? And for all you know, that is EXACTLY what that Pastor did! If you do not have the full content of his sermon, or even an outline, then there's no way you should judge the man or the church simply based on a sermon TITLE!
I fully realize that there is a falling away of the church; however, I think there is way too much criticism on this board for things that don't fall into the 19th century model for the church.

I much prefer to hear what the pastor has to say and then cast stones, if necessary, than to prejudge.
