Tony Blair: Religion Must be Saved from Extremism
By Maria Mackay
The Christian Post
In his first major speech on religion, Tony Blair said Thursday night that religion must be rescued from extremism and irrelevance and used as a force for good at a time of global turmoil.
Tony Blair tonight called for religious faith to be rescued from extremism and put at the center of solving the world's problems. The former prime minister said that in an increasingly globalized world, the role of faith is 'especially important'. Religion could 'awaken the world's conscience' and help to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to eradicate poverty and hunger, he said.Blair, who converted to Catholicism last year, made the call in a lecture on faith and globalization at Westminster Cathedral. It was the first in "The Cardinal's Lectures" series, organized by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, to examine faith and life in Britain.
"For religion to be a force for good, it must be rescued not simply from extremism, faith as a means of exclusion; but also from irrelevance, an interesting part of our history but not of our future," said Blair. Religion is never a force for good. These people are so blind and it's so sad. Religion only enslaves. It's the problem not the solution.
I'm so glad I don't have a religion with Jesus, I have a relationship!
religion+god=slavery
relationship+Jesus=freedom

Don't be too happy just yet. The secular definition of religion covers "a set of beliefs and practices, often centered upon specific supernatural and moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human nature" and under this, everyone does have religion.

Blair needs to take this to the Muslims.
Religion...man jumping through a set of hoops to please God.
Personal relationship - God doing what needs to be done in order to save man and have that relationship.

URI Welcomes Seven New Cooperation Circles
Written by Global Staff
Wednesday, 19 March 2008
URI is happy to welcome seven new Cooperation Circles to the URI global network, approved in the first and second meetings of the CC Approval Committee of the Global Council this year. Each of these CCs is a special and invaluable part of URI, with unique gifts for bringing healing and peace to our world.
North America Region
Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada
The highlight of ICSN’s work is bringing 70-80 kids together twice a year for four days, and emmersing them in a process of self-understanding. They draw kids from all ethnicities, income levels, and cultures from local schools and camps for troubled youth. All these efforts are aimed at fulfilling their CC purpose, which is "to facilitate peacemaking in our local community and pray and act for it globally." Interfaith Council at Stapleton
This CC’s mission is to encourage awareness of the spiritual dimension of people and to enhance the development of and education about various religious faiths in the Denver Community, specifically in the Stapleton redevelopment area, by promoting dialogue and discussion between the various religious faiths in a safe and neutral environment. The Council meets monthly and has various activities, the main activity in last two years being two conferences on the Convergence of Science and Spirituality, where they have had some very special sessions on different topics. For example, in 2003, they had trialogue with a Rabbi, Imam, and Reverend speaking on working together. [Primary Contact Person: Rev. Sunday, 25 November 2007
Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. MIR CC (Rio Inter-Religious Movement CC) held its end of year event November 24, 2007, and it was a very nice and profound experience. Read the story also in Portuguese: www.uri.org/brasil.
From 2 to 11 pm (ADD THE NOS. = 13) more than 100 people dialogued, prayed, got to know better each other, ate and celebrated. The main theme was about Brazil and its spiritual destiny. Many religious groups have ideas about Brazilian predestination as a spiritual nation for the XXI Century.
This year MIR CC has completed 15 years and a book about its trajectory is being made by ISER – Institute of Religious Studies. The launch will happen on February 28th, 2008.
