Ok- The more I think about these funny money checks being sent to folks, the more it rubs me the wrong way...If it has been presented, forgive the duplicate.

It becomes more and more strange the more I think about it...maybe even sinister, who knows. The way it is advertised, reminders going out, the push for e-file and direct deposit- the whole idea of the gubmit begging people to take the cash...it just don't sit well.

What thoughts do you folks have? On the one hand, I don't even want to file, but you kinda have to and then you're getting your stim check whether you want it or not. 2 + 2 doesn't equal 4....

Concerning the motives of the people in our government, it's very wise to be somewhat paranoid. There very well may be some sinister plot behind this stimulus package. What it is, though, other than another way to drive a stake into the feebly beating heart of the dollar, I've no idea.

Ya know, I'm leary of it too, but I filed. My dad works for the IRS, and my mom said they are working on it and it is going to happen.

Still, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

A fiat system of economy does best when the people spend. Saving is anathema to fiat systems. Everything the government can do to discourage saving has been done. Now they are going beyond that and giving people money to spend. The reason for "reminder letters", imho, is to make sure people KNOW it is coming ... erase doubt ... with the hope that they will go out and spend NOW on credit cards, thinking they will pay off the card debt when they get their stim check. NOT! I can guarantee that almost all who do that will simply carry the debt and spend the stim check on even more stuff. The fed knows this.

IssacharThey complain when we don't save......then they complain when we don't spend.

:panic I'm saving my stimulus. I've decided I am going to get VERY tight with money in the coming months.

Just a reminder, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Of course there are strings attached to this stimulus package. We just don't know what they are at this point. Knowing New York's tax system, they will probably take it all back on our state taxes next year anyway. :ohno

Im all for the Gov giving us some of our money back.

We expect our check in early May.

Its funny to me some think something sinister is up.
Bush has done it before, gave us some of our money back to kick start the economy.
There isnt a conspiracy nor a disaster behind everything.

Since you need to file to get the money, it will get a great deal of people to file that haven't been required to in the past. This will increase the governments database on the public. It could make it easier to start a mark type system.

I concur with this... this is simply a sad attempt to continue propping up the fiat system as Issachar pointed out. As usual Politicians are simply trying to show voters they are trying to do what is needed... but really the problem is the people in general.. because they ask these senators and leaders to tell them what they want to hear... and when they don't we don't vote for them... and there are not enough strong leaders to tell people what needs to be told....
