Are we 10 years away from artificial life? (http://science.howstuffworks.com/artificial-life-news.htm)
In late August 2007, an Associated Press article put forth the claim that scientists were no more than 10 years away from creating artificial life -- and possibly as few as three. Could such a thing be possible? Scientists have made tremendous strides in decoding human and animal genomes, synthesizing DNA and cloning. Creating artificial, functioning biological organisms seems to present a tremendous leap beyond any of these abilities. But some of the companies and researchers involved in the quest for artificial life believe that the 10-year time frame is possible. Not only that -- they say that the development of wet artificial life (as it's often called) will radically affect our views of biological life and our place in the universe.
The conspiratorial side of me suspects that it has already been done.

In the UK they created a hybrid that survived 3 days, their laws state that anything living 14 days must be destroyed...so, I agree with you, I think there is more that's taken place than the public and maybe officials know about.

I've always been intrigued by the "playing God" idea.
Surely if we're made in the image of God, then creating life is an aspect of humanity too?

Only copies of the original, and or its component parts.

Why do you say that? Are there verses that warn against the idea of "playing God?" I'm not criticising, I've just never really thought about it much until now.
Although I will say that it was finding out about hybrid embryos that really put me off going into my genetics major, and I arranged a transfer into physics instead.

We were made in his image - a resemblance - not as an exact copy. If we were exact copies of Him, we would be unable to sin.

We cannot create out of nothing, only God can do that.
We create out of procreation.

And procreation is a guided creation, at that.

Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

Usually you find that the military has conducted secret experiments and developments for years before they are released to the public.
Considering they are always looking to make a super soilder I would not be surprised if this was the case.
I always wondered with the sightings of weird creatures that people all over the country claim to have seen how many might actually be an animal experiment gone wrong? :idunno
Its certainly food for thought and one day we might find out. No one believed in chemtrails either and now Germany has confessed up to them. :scratch :idunno
