For the second half of next year I would like to study our state's history, Maryland. Can any of you point me in the direction of some good resources for elementary age?

State history is a hard curriculum to find. Switched on Schoolhouse has state history curriculum but they are meant for older students. Check around with some of your homeschool groups and ask them what they recommend. You might also want to try your states website in the educational section. I'm in Texas and I know that our state website has free information for teaching Texas history. You could also just google your state for homeschool curriculum. State history has always been a bit harder to find.

Being from Frederick, I seem to remember a historical society intown I think it was at or near Hood College. You may have a local one too. Libraries should have a devoted section to local - state history.
The National / State parks had a lot to offer.
I remember going to many sites in Md:
Inner Harbor Balto.
Annapolis Court House
Aberdeen Proving Ground
Monocacy - Antietam - Harpers Ferry(yea I know- WV) ACW Battelfields
Fort Frederick - Washington Co.
St Seaton Shrine - Grotto of Lourdes - Emmitsburg
Catoctin Park- GreenTop, Misty Mt, Camp David - Thurmont
Western Maryland RR Historical Society - Union Bridge
C & O Canal - all along the Potomac
B & O RR Museum - Balto.
Bird Carving Museum (Ward Brothers) in Salisbury - great zoo there too.
St Michaels Maritine Museum on Tilghmans Island
Blackwater NWR - Cambridge?
Assiteque/Chincoteque (never could spell) Seashores
There may be web sites for all of these.
And Remember: Maryland is for Crabs, and the Oreoles, and the Terps

We had a reinactor come to our church picnic last year who played the part of Francis Scott Key. He was really good but the kids didn't have a clue. :ohno The whole time he was there he never once came out of character. It really freaked dh out. :heh

My dad was active in the VFW in Frederick and protrayed Ben Franklin. I have to find the picture as he was like right out of "1776". I'll have to get him to sign a $100 bill for me. :pound
And the kids were so innocent, did it hurt when the kite got hit?......
