But you can still buy 4 bags per visit. We don't eat as much rice as some families do so 4 bags would be enough to last our family almost a year. I'm sure it will get worse, but right now it doesn't seem that bad.

I heard on FoxNews at 4:00 pm today that it's a limit to two 50 lb bags.

Is this just panic, or will the market hoarding subside after a while?
I mean, growers are still growing the food, we're not in a dust bowl like the depression times...the only thing that is affecting the farmers is the price of gas, and possibly the lending market.
Or am I being incredibly naiive?

The weather worldwide has been unfriendly to the farmers. I believe that Australia has had two really bad growing seasons. In the US, we have also had bad growing seasons and I've read elsewhere on the board that some farmers can't afford to farm anymore because of poor crop yields and the expense of putting the crops in. Growing food requires patience, the right combination of rain and sun, and help from God. The rain and sun have not been cooperating worldwide.

A friend just called me and told me she just saw on the Houston ABC television affiliate the report about Sam's Club limiting rice to customers. Now that it's hit local news, I won't be surprised to see panic buying around the area.
