A False Healing Revival??

Here we go again folks.

The New Age Movement is really hitting the Body of Christ hard.
From Oprah and Eklhart Tolle outside the camp.

To guys like Richard Abanes and Rick Warren who endorse new age prayer formats such as contemplative and centering prayer inside the camp.:tsk

Why is it that if we are not feeling or experiencing God we go looking for the next new (recycled, repackaged deception)?
Moses didn't have the burning bush experience every day. The apostles didnt witness the Transfiguration on the Mount everyday.
Why is it that Christians seem to flock after the next thing that offers some kind of experience?
If we are not experiencing God is He no longer there?Of course not He is always with us whether we are experiencing Him or not.
I dont agree with Andrew perhaps on some things but he has been a good source of information and heads up on deception for many years now.
Here is Andrews article-

A FALSE HEALING REVIVAL??
-Florida-Andrew Strom.

Many of you will have already heard about the "Healing Revival"that has purportedly broken out in Lakeland, Florida. Today Charisma Magazine put out a piece on it entitled 'A Holy Ghost Outbreak in Florida' - "...Charismatics are flocking to the sleepy town of Lakeland, Fla. to attend evangelist Todd Bentley’s unconventional revival services." Is Charisma preparing to hype this one to the skies like they did with Toronto and Rodney Howard-Browne? It seems perhaps they are. But why am I opposed to this 'Healing Revival' so soon after it hasbeen announced? -It is because I already know Todd Bentley'sministry all too well, and this whole thing centers around him. Todd Bentley actually has deep roots in the Prophetic movement, and he is one of the very few ministers that I have ever felt I had to publicly warn people about by name. -His ministry is that bad.False "angel" encounters of the weirdest kind, gold dust, guidedvisualizations of the "Third Heaven" that are straight out of theNew Age, etc. And yet there is a "power" with it that makes it all the more dangerous. Here is how Charisma describes his Florida meetings- "His methods are far from polished. When he prayed for people in Lakeland, he usually began by laying his hand on their heads and then yelling, “Bam!”Often the people fell backward to the floor. After one elderly woman fell, Bentley told the audience: “She doesn’t know why she fell down.” The woman then laughed and said to him in the microphone: “Because you pushed me!” He prayed for her three more times that night, and she said she could hear better...During the past three weeks people have testified of being healed from heart conditions, skin rashes and back problems, and many said scars disappeared...Many charismatics are wondering if the protracted meetings will become a phenomenon similar to what happened in Rodney Howard-Browne’s meetings in Lakeland in 1993, at the Toronto Airport Vineyard Church in Canada in 1994 and at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola in 1995..." [END QUOTE] Sadly, the Charismatic movement is in such a sick state today that it would not surprise me at all if this happens. (-I say this as a strong Spirit-filled, tongues-speaking believer myself. I am by no means opposed to genuine miracles). Have we completely forgotten the warnings of "Lying signs and wonders" in the Last Days? Below is a testimony by Lynn Clark who is a Moderator at ourwebsite 'RevivalSchool.com'. This is what she wrote about herinvolvement with Todd Bentley's ministry: "I decided to check out Patricia King and Todd Bentley and, ignorant of their 'third heaven' guided visualizations, attended a five day conference of Patricia King and then two of Todd Bentley's conferences and began to imagine third heaven visitations - guided visualization - still not realizing that these are actually spirits of darkness - the New Age calls them spirit guides - demons is what they are. And so I bought Todd Bentley's teaching on third heaven visitations and brought it home to listen to. "I was in my living room laying on the floor listening to the teaching on how to visualize the third heaven and what to say and was getting caught up into his teaching and all of a sudden I began to shake uncontrollably and jerk and groan, and no sooner had this taken place I became frozen stiff - I could not move any part of my body and I knew this was a demon trying to take hold of me, and so with all the effort I could muster I cried out, "God save me - Jesus help me" - and as soon as I cried out to the Lord my body went limp. God spared me that night and I will be forever grateful. "I spent much of the night in tears asking God to forgive me - and renouncing all the hands layed on me and all the awful deception I had opened myself up to..." [END QUOTE] ANDREW AGAIN: I myself have heard the tapes of Todd Bentley's"Third Heaven Visualization" teachings, and I want to tell you - theyare straight out of the New Age handbook. -Terrible stuff. And yetso widely accepted by thousands of Christians today. Do these kinds of practices (above) produce a genuine 'Healing Revival'? -These are the kinds of questions that we need to beasking Charisma Magazine. I leave it for you to decide.

To me, this guy sounds an awful like that false healer Benny Hinn. The whole laying hands on people or blowing on them and they fall backwards. If these people really are getting healed then where are the medical people who are willing to come forward and declare these people are well? I'm guessing it's like Hinn's ministry where there has NEVER been even one verified healing by a reliable medical professional. How many people have died after proclaiming themselves healed from a Benny Hinn crusade? I don't believe this is legitimate for a second and even if it was, I'd be very concerned about where this so-called power is coming from. :fear

Thanks to whoever started this thread. I had been watching him for several nights. I wanted so badly to go to this revival. Something just wasn't right and I have been watching and waiting for this thread to appear. There was a man in line that testified that he had some sort of really bad infection on his leg. Said that God had healed him and the scar was almost gone.My question is this. Why didn't they put the camera on his leg? He was wearing shorts. If God healed me like some of these people say they had been healed you would have heard about it and it wouldn't be through the media. I would be shouting it that loudly. Does anyone else notice this or am I the only one? I more than anyone would love to see a revival in America and people turn back to God. I would love to see a revival like this and it truly be from God.

Another question I have is about these tooth fillings. Why would God not just re-create the whole tooth instead of just filling it? He created our bodies . I am just thinking.

I am not afraid of bombs, or even dying for my beliefs. The food shortage, high prices does not upset me that much. What really scares me is all the false doctrine out there that comes as an angle of light.

We must know what we believe and why we believe it.

whatever happened to discernment?

i have wanted to start a thread on it, but starting one might imply that i think i have a monopoly on discernment- at least it might rub some the wrong way. and even if its not me that does it, someone is bound to take offense to something said in a reply. i might even loose it and get snarky myself :doh

But really, where did it go? Surely at least common sense should spark some intellegent response, on some level?

Yes it is trickery, and part of the responsibility lies on the ones knowingly spreading the falsehoods...

guess i'll never understand it

I have friends who are caught up in this and very excited about it. What can I tell them?

I have friends who are caught up in this and very excited about it. What can I tell them?

First off, encourage them to check everything they see and hear (or "experience") by the WORD of GOD, which is our final authority. Keep them in prayer so they are not deceived by this.

:pray

I had an invite to go to this "revival", however I had that red flag / check / discernment factor kick in and felt that I should not go (Thank You, LORD!) After what I viewed on the internet of how this Todd fella "preaches" and some articles of his "ministry", I am sooo glad I heeded this warning from the LORD.

Remember ... TRUE revival is all about Yeshua our Messiah, repentance and holiness and salvation and the WORD of GOD !

Thank you, Sing, for posting that article from Andrew Strom.
As a believer who has pentecostal views which are similar to Mr Strom's, I must say that the way some charismatic/pentecostal Christians have let their discernment slip away is disheartening and may I say, deplorable.

It appears to me that many believers are getting so caught up in an experience, thirsting for "power", without checking the source. I have seen a group on Facebook who are so into these 'signs and wonders', they post that they want to see/have more of these things. Where's Jesus in all this? IMO, Jesus showed us that power wasn't found in signs and wonders, but in humbling ourselves, by realizing that without Him we are nothing. We weren't given power to use to make us prosper or have super spiritual experiences, but to be a witness for Him. Yes, there were signs and wonders that were displayed, but they drew people to the Saviour, who could save them from their sin. They weren't power trips for the disciples. They turned the world upside down, back then- and that's the pagan people saying that in Acts. That ISN'T happening today in North America! Sorry folks, it just isn't. True revival reveals SIN in the hearts of people.

Miracles, signs and wonders ARE happening in the world, though. They are happening in what I would call "un-western' parts of the world. I just recently read an article from a missionary in Ethiopia. He said that 'in some of the world's most resistant religious groups, God's doing the most amazing miracles.' Things such as sick are healed, demon possessed are set free and restored to their right minds, these are resulting in people asking about Jesus. There are religious leaders -(who reject /persecute believers who want to share the gospel and plant churches)- who are receiving very clear dreams from God challenging these persecutors to believe. The result being they then turn to the believers to learn more about Jesus. This is happening not in established churches, but in very dark (spiritually speaking) places.

May God have mercy on the church in the West, We have drifted so far from the truth.

Does anyone have a link to an article detailing why this is wrong? I want to be able to discuss this intelligently :).
