I received an email, spam, that will not delete. It's not read, I haven't opened it, but it won't delete and I can't move it to a different folder like my junk mail folder. It's the only one doing that, and I can't figure out what's going on. I'm not going to open it, because I think it's probably being caused by a virus, but my virus detector didn't catch it. Anybody know what I should do?

What are you using to read your email? A web browser, or an email client (eg: Outlook, Thunderbird, etc)?

I'm using Outlook.

You can't just click the little check box next to the message and then push a delete button somewhere? (sorry, i haven't used outlook in ten years)

What's the title of the e-mail? Try googling that to see what others are doing about it.

Select the email (check the box of the message) and hit Shift/Delete at the same time on your keyboard. Make sure you only do this on messages you know for sure that you want deleted because you can't recover them.

Outlook is a viral trap
could be just a glitch

Sorry, it took a while for me to get back here.

The email is still there, and won't go away. I can't check the box next to it because there isn't one. If I highlight and then hit shift/delete I'm asked if I'm sure I want to delete these messages. Messages is plural and I don't want to delete all my messages in my inbox just that one.

My husband will be off today. I'm hoping he'll have time to figure it out. He hasn't had time to look at it. As long as I don't try to open it, it should be fine. I was hoping someone here may be able to figure out what it's doing. We use avast! as our virus scanner, and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

This has never, ever, ever happened before. :scratch

Switch to Thunderbird. It's wonderful! I had to start using it when AOL put huge flashing ads at the bottom of their emails.
Yahoo won't let me empty the bulk folder, it annoys me, but it's their memory being wasted, not mine. There are over 600 emails in that thing.

Try highlighting another message that you plan to delete and then use the CTRL-click to also highlight this message. Hit the Delete key and see if that works.
