I don't want to alarm anybody, but maybe it's time for Americans to start stockpiling food.
No, this is not a drill.
You've seen the TV footage of food riots in parts of the developing world. Yes, they're a long way away from the U.S. But most foodstuffs operate in a global market. When the cost of wheat soars in Asia, it will do the same here.
Reality: Food prices are already rising here much faster than the returns you are likely to get from keeping your money in a bank or money-market fund. And there are very good reasons to believe prices on the shelves are about to start rising a lot faster.

This debate has been going on for at least a year here. The "Stockpiling Food" thread in Anything Goes section, got so heated at one time that the mods went in and removed everything that was not related to emergency preparations or food storage. Some feel led to store up or stockpile while others believe it is a test of faith and God will provide. I felt driven to make some preps (this is after praying about it) whether these preps are for me and my family or for a tribulation saint, I do not know. I pray we are raptured out of here and all of the efforts made by those of us who prepared are used by God for those left behind.
The cost of foodstuff has risen quite abit in the past year. Freeze dried foods are on a possible 3-6 week delivery schedule. Some stores are limiting quanities of rice and other staples. Canned goods are good for one to two years but are very heavy, (stack on heavy-duty shelving) and keep them in a cool place and avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat.
If you do stockpile DO NOT tell everyone about it, if things get really bad you may find yourself under attack for your food. Pray that we are taken out of here before things get that bad. God has us all in the palm of his hand so his will be done.

I just listened to this guy on Fox Business and he had a lot of great things to say. Of course the "news casters" on the Happy Hour thought he was crazy. They also had a guy named Jim Rawles on there and he didn't hide anything he felt about stocking up. I just pulled up his website and will be looking over it. Anyone else ever heard of him?

There's another thread here about this. :scratch I thought I posted in it. :thinking
A lady called into Dave Ramsey yesterday, and she asked him what he thought about stockpiling food, and he told her he didn't think it was a good idea, that he doesn't do it and we shouldn't do it because once you go through it, you just have to get more. He didn't think it was good idea, from a financial stand point. Somehow I think he's missing the point.

It's a challenge to know what the truth really is. We have some Economist telling us to buy food stores, while others saying there isn't a problem. I guess we will have to do what the spirit calls us to do.
I'm called to squirrel, but I've always done that. I just hope our government doesn't lie to us until the point of no return. The worst thing for them to do is to tell us everything is fine and we don't need to fill the pantry, to turn around and then turn around and tell us that we should have and now it's too late.

I'd start now regardless of the news.
And if I had some room for a garden in my yard, I'd make use of that too.
Seeds. Canning. All that good, frugal stuff.
