Yesterday I was transported to the hospital because of severe chest pain. They wanted to rule out a heart attack. The good news is that it wasn't and that it was, in my opinion, pleurisy which has plagued me most of my life. However, for those of you who know my story, you also know about how I have severe physical problems due to failed spinal surgery and the pain that results from that.
Well, last night as I was praying again asking for relief, I got angry. Not at God because it is the evil one who is responsible for all things bad. I started thinking about that passage in Ephesians:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty strength. 11Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the devil’s strategies. 12For our struggle is not against a human opponent, but against rulers, against authorities, against cosmic powers in the darkness around us, against evil spiritual forces in the heavenly realm. 13For this reason, take up the whole armor of God so that you may be able to take a stand in that evil day. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm.
14Take a stand, then! Fasten the belt of truth around your waist. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. 15Put shoes on your feet so that you are ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all of these, pick up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Also take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18Pray in the Spirit at all times with every kind of prayer and request there is. For the same reason be alert with every kind of effort and request for all the saints.
I started praying and I was in the Spirit. I railed against satan and rebuked him. I called upon him to flee in the name of Jesus. I praised my Lord and it was great. I spoke out against the evil one and guess what. My back pain subsided and I felt like things were finally getting under control with my pain.
I felt the reality of the spiritual struggle. God is so great! I know that my pain is not over but I have a weapon to deal with it. He loves me and knows me. He is my warrior and best of all, He is my Father - Abba- Daddy. I love Him and that day is near when I will be with Him. May God bless each of you.
