Pop Goes the Church
Listen carefully to how they decide what they are going to preach about at
Granger Community Church in Granger Indiana
Then compare what you hear to what scripture says:
2 Timothy 4:1-5
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Titus 1:7-9
For an overseer,as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,
but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.
He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

I didn't grow up in church. When I became a Christian as an adult I started going to church to learn how to please God and live my life. I wanted to know truth. I wanted to learn everything I could about my Savior. I wanted to be with other people who loved God. Cultural relevance was not a goal.

False Churches Sing of the Flesh
A teenager who reads Slice just emailed after watching Granger Community Church’s featured church music at their website.
(Click on Media Player in the top right corner and scroll down to Granger’s rendition of Madonna’s “Material Girl” performed in their church service.)

After watching that abomination, I went to my favorite hymn site and read the text of this hymn.
This is the entire gospel in the text.
It’s the difference between night and day, darkness and light, truth and error, flesh and spirit.
The counterfeit churches today can be spotted by what they sing about.
The new song in our mouths that the Psalmist refers to is as far from the filth of this world as you can possibly get.
This is our new song as the redeemed of Christ.
It will be our song for all eternity. Praise the Lord!
Sing, my tongue, the glorious battle,
Sing the ending of the fray;
Now above the cross, the trophy,
Sound the loud triumphant lay:
Tell how Christ the world’s Redeemer,
As a victim won the day.
He, our Maker, deeply grieving
That the first made Adam fell,
When he ate the fruit forbidden
Whose reward was death and hell,
Marked e’en then this Tree the ruin
Of the first tree to dispel.
Tell how, when at length the fullness,
Of th’appointed time was come,
Christ, the Word, was born of woman,
Left for us His heavenly home;
Showed us human life made perfect,
Shone as light amid the gloom.
Lo! He lies an Infant weeping,
Where the narrow manger stands,
While the Mother-Maid His members
Wraps in mean and lowly bands,
And the swaddling clothes is winding
Round His helpless feet and hands.
Thus, with thirty years accomplished,
Went He forth from Nazareth,
Destined, dedicated, willing,
Wrought His work, and met His death.
Like a lamb He humbly yielded
On the cross His dying breath.
There the nails and spears He suffers,
Vinegar, and gall, and reed;
From His sacred body piercèd
Blood and water both proceed;
Precious flood, which all creation
From the stain of sin hath freed.
Faithful cross, thou sign of triumph,
Now for us the noblest tree,
None in foliage, none in blossom,
None in fruit thy peer may be;
Symbol of the world’s redemption,
For the weight that hung on thee!
Bend thy boughs, O tree of glory!
Thy relaxing sinews bend;
For awhile the ancient rigor
That thy birth bestowed, suspend;
And the King of heavenly beauty
On thy bosom gently tend!
Thou alone wast counted worthy
This world’s ransom to sustain,
That a shipwrecked race forever
Might a port of refuge gain,
With the sacred blood anointed
Of the Lamb of sinners slain.
To the Trinity be glory
Everlasting, as is meet:
Equal to the Father, equal
To the Son, and Paraclete:
God the Three in One, whose praises
All created things repeat.

Love that Billiefan. No pretense or weirdness in ancient Hymns.
Ever seen this one?
Be Thou My Vision
7th Century
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
be all else but naught to me, save that thou art;
be thou my best thought in the day and the night,
both waking and sleeping, thy presence my light.
Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word,
be thou ever with me, and I with thee Lord;
be thou my great Father, and I thy true son;
be thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.
Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight;
be thou my whole armor, be thou my true might;
be thou my soul's shelter, be thou my strong tower:
O raise thou me heavenward, great Power of my power.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise:
be thou mine inheritance now and always;
be thou and thou only the first in my heart;
O Sovereign of heaven, my treasure thou art.
High King of heaven, thou heaven's bright sun,
O grant me its joys after victory is won;
great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all.

Easter Sunday at Granger
Published April 30th, 2008 by Editor in Abominations
The highest holy day of the Christian faith is Easter Sunday. That is the day that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ conquered the grave.
Here is what Granger Community Church did on Easter Sunday. This sure was relevant but it has nothing to do Jesus Christ and His victorious resurrection from the grave.

:scratch What did that have to do with ANYTHING? What was the message presented after that? How sad to see they have a congregation of 6000, but how many are saved? It's all about the numbers these days, it seems. :pray

There is a big church near us with thousands that go there. Friends of ours went there, just to see it. They were about the only ones there that had bibles, but never opened them. :tsk

how about this one?
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,
Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises I’ll begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

a while back commented on a youtube clip
on what this "church" in Granger Indiana is doing
and I said
2 Timothy 4:3-4 is all I say when I think of this church
here is what one of Granger's defenders just said in response to me on youtube:
Thank you, modern day PHARISEE, for misquoting scripture!!!
There is NOTHING wrong with the use of pop culture in a church to reach people for Jesus!!!
Why don't YOU go read Matthew 9:11-13. THAT'S what I think of when I think of this clip!!!
talk about itching ears and poor grammer and people not liking the truth
2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
