“Truth Matters, Shut Down Your EVIL Site!”
Published April 29th, 2008 by Editor in American "Christianity", Seeker Sensitive, Self-Righteousness
When professing Christians are held in rebuke against what the Scripture teaches, often they resort to ad hominem attacks and become very offended by what is said.
Why is this?
One of the main reasons is pride.
Someone comes along, stands boldly for what God has revealed in Scripture, and those who don’t often are quick to label the person who does as "evil".
We are told of an instance of this very thing when our uncompromising Lord preached
and was told he had a devil because they didn’t like what He had to say and He didn’t cater to their "felt needs".
Josh Rittenhouse at Truth Matters
recently received a letter from an anonymous person (anonymity is usually the norm with these people)
that told him basically that he needed to "shut down his evil site."
Some of the comments were as follows:
"Being self-righteously arrogant enough to base an entire blogging ‘ministry’ around bashing fellow believers makes me sure that you will only turn to tired arguments about watering down the gospel instead of listening to wise rebuke….
What if someone entered a church solely to please themselves because they might see a cool show or win a cool prize or hear a cool popular song?
And what if that person, upon entering that church, heard the true gospel of Christ presented in watered down terms
they could understand?
And what if that person felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit and surrendered their life to Christ and escaped the torments of Hell and became a devoted follower of Christ?
And what if that person never studied Sprugeon or MacArthur
and never heard a sermon on the minor prophets and never could articulate the major tenants of systematic evangelical theology
but instead merely overcame addiction, became a better parent and spouse and faithfully sang watered down praise songs every
Sunday that had some theologically questionable lyrics but for him were
simply an attempt to express the overflowing gratitude to God for changing his life?
How dare we consider this a loss!
This is a win! … So I will be your Nathan.
Repent.
Shut down this evil website that serves only the base interests of carnality.
Engage your time in evangelizing the lost and discipling the saved so deeply that you would not have time to continue this site, even if you don’t consider my other rebukes valid."
This post and the comments give a good indication as to what happens when one stands for the truth of the Scriptures and doesn’t compromise for the lazy and uncaring. It shows what is wrong with the seeker-mentality:
The person themselves admitted that the old "bait and switch" routine followed by a watered down presentation of the Gospel would be "a win!"
This is not causing people to become faithful believers.
It’s causing them to trust in themselves and what they’ve done for salvation.
As R.C. Sproul said, "It’s a strategy of unbelief."
Here is the post and comments from Truth Matters.
It gives a great insight into why "seeker-friendly" people are so offended by the truth of the Gospel.
