I don't know how many of you own a copy, but get one. I've had a copy for a month now and have read several of the stories repeatedly. (the 2007 updated book)

One thing that I get to speak about this week in church, is the fact that many times, people who were being killed for the sake of the gospel, used their dying words to ask those killing them to repent and come to Christ. They didn't do that because they were evangelist, they did it because they cared for them and didn't want them to end up in hell...

(of whom the world was not worthy)

Many people in our church say they'd lay down their life for the gospel, yet few lay down their pride enough to share the gospel with a stranger.

In the Irony, the book of martyrs, is printed in China.
(can't believe that, but it's true)

Thanks for this post Mailman Dan! I've been considering buying this book but haven't yet. Your post just gave me another nudge in that direction.

I bought and it was one of the best books I've read. I was encouraged to read the testimonies of the saints that have gone before us. They died some of the most horrifc deaths. I highly recommend this book. It is a treasure to keep. Their faith in Christ was deep, moving and faithful to the end. They always treated the presecuters with love. They prayed for them while they tortured them.

Great post, Dan! You're so right... I was like that myself, but realized I needed to tell others not because of some "gift" I have but because I needed to be obedient. Oh the blessings of the closeness of God's presence is wonderful when I'm out witnessing for Christ...
