Is there such a thing? A lady that I know thinks that we are homeschooling because we get a large tax break for it. I said that I had never heard of such a thing, that it was a myth. I see lots of proposed legislation concerning it, but nothing in the works yet. Am I wrong?

Can't you write off the supplies you buy for homeschooling? I don't really see this as a huge tax break- especially since you still have to pay public school taxes...

no, not anymore. you have to be a certified teacher and you have to have receipts and paying for your supplies out of your personal budget. also the tax form said specificially that the tax credit is NOT for homeschooling stuff.

In what state, or does it matter?

We may do something like this for our kids:

IRA account of up to $2500 may be set aside for homeschool education in the US. Talk to your tax accountant on how to take advantage of this tax deduction. This is one way some money may be sheltered for homeschool-related expenses if you plan in advance while your children are small.

The voucher item comes up now and again but the teacher unions & NEA kill it as fast as the can. They need MORE money to educate.

How about more accountability and firing those who perform poorly, and discipline those kids who keep the good ones from doing their job....

So far no tax breaks, maybe in a different state, but nothing in PA yet.

Personally, I don't want any tax credits for homeschooling....they seem to come with those dangly things know as strings.

That's what I was thinking!

Actually, I was a bit offended when I found out that lady was telling everyone in our (small) community that we homeschool BECAUSE we get a tax break for it. I guess she really has no clue. About anything.

I guess people don't understand that money isn't the motivation for everything!!
