A jaw-dropping ritual in India has infants plunging 50 feet from a tower to wish them good health.

In a video shot on April 29, good luck babies" are thrown from the top of a building and onto a sheet during the celebration, which has been celebrated in the Indian state of Maharastra for 500 years, the U.K.’s Sky News reported Thursday.

The proud parents who allow their child to take part in the ritual take a vow to do so at the Baba Sheikh Umar Saheb Dargah temple, Sky News reported.

Locals claim there never have been accidents and that children thrown from the tower do not suffer from any physical disabilities, the station reported.

The annual celebration in observed by Muslims and Hindus.

The entire article... I think this would be pretty scary for those poor babies!!!

I did watch it on the news. it was very well organized and actually kind of funny. Someone throws the baby and it is so quick and it -bloop!- just lands on the catcher which is surrounded by about a dozen man. Then one man takes the baby off quickly and passes it to the large crowd. They did say that they have never had an accident. Not condoning it really but it wasn't just willy-nilly, anyway!

i'm glad they have a record of no accidents, but oh, my.....

if adults want to play with good luck silliness, there's a blarney stone over yonder they can kiss,

i'd go all mommabear on someone if they tossed my baby- unless it were a rescue from a fire and not tossing was worse...:faint

Worshipers stage annual baby throwing ritual in western India

Muslim worshippers at a shrine in western India have been taking part in their annual ritual of ‘baby throwing’.

The youngsters are thrown from a height of 15 metres, and caught in a sheet.

Parents believe the ritual brings the babies good health and makes the children strong.

Devotees say no child has been hurt in 500 years of the practice.

WHAT??! That is INSANE! I certainly HOPE no child has been hurt, but I can only imagine what kind of complex emotional scarring that can cause.
