Now, I know that for the most part, heaven and earth will pass away, but the Lord's words will never pass away. So I understand that most of the world's emphasis on global warming and such is just a distraction and a way to usher in one world government. That said, what do you do to lessen your impact on the world's resources? I'm finally keeping some canvas bags in my car to use at the grocery stores since we know that those plastic bags don't really break down, ever, and I have traded in my plastic dishes for glass ones, esp. for reheating food. This whole thing about BPA in our food and bodies really frightens me, makes me think I won't have grandkids bc of all the chemicals they've been ingesting through their sippy cups and canned food (that is a big source of plastic leaching). Sorry for the long post, but I was wondering if anyone else did this type of stuff, like recycling and using less plastic.

nothing too radical,, we've always lived carefully

composting kitchen stuff
shut off not used lights
don't waste water
use natural cleaning products as we find them
pestecides in small ammounts only if all else fails- we've only tried to murder ants like that...
i don't have a rain barrel, but i do catch rain in buckets for watering our small garden
we've used low energy fluoro bulbs for years before it was a fad, i have heard there may be a bigger prob with mercury from them, so i'm not sure if its really helping anymore .

we do try to be responsible.

we don't go bonkers over it, we don't heedlessly waste, but we don't worship it.

i do store things in glass rather than plastic if possible
glass microwaveable bowls etc.
i don't buy "mystery plastic" storage containers from dollar stores that are made in china.

i have some of the nylon shopping bags, but the trick is to remember to bring them in, and hubbys been doing the shopping lately so....thats even more challenging.
we reuse the plastic bags as many ways as we can, they are great for many things.

I'm one who doesn't put much stock in the idea that man has caused global warming. I place stock in the idea that we should all be good stewards, though.

1) Try to minimize the use of energy (turn off lights, use 100% fluorescents, lower thermostat, map out trips to town to minimize mileage, etc.)
2) Minimize the waste of food.
3) Reuse things that are reusable (paper and plastic shopping bags become trash bags, compost vegetable waste during summer months, etc.)
4) Donate used items to thrift stores and purchase used items from thrift stores.
5) Use just enough laundry soap for each load (less can give better results)
6) Keep vehicles well tuned
7) Shop via internet to avoid travel miles
... and more.

I burn spotted owls to increase my carbon footprint.

What can I say? I'm cold now.

Baby seals work much better than spotted owls.

I like to see how fast my meter can go by turning on all of my lights and appliances and both a/c units at the same time.

if you replace the meter wheel with a saw blade and turn on every light in the house, every appliance and crank the A/C, you can make a very servicable makeshift table saw.... :nod

its great in a pinch for carving redwoods into toothpicks
