I have a dresser that I would like to paint. It is basically a wooden dresser with 6 drawers. I would like to paint it black to hopefully match my headboard but don't want it to look to tacky. Any of you have any suggestions to go about doing this? Thank you!!

Hi
Make sure you sand any gloss finish off the wood. Prime with KILZ or BIN.
Repaint using a small foam roller and brush. The foam brush will make it look a little like it was sprayed. (If you know of someone with a spray booth...thats still the best)

I have a bookcase I need to paint. Problem is that I have no idea what color I should paint it. My furniture just matches too perfectly and I need to shake things up a little bit. The walls are a pale green and I have some browns and taupes and darker greens in the room. Anybody have any suggestions for me?

How about a rustic red? Not a bright red, but the kind of red that looks like it belongs in an antique shop.
Or an eggplant color?
Deep coral?
Vanilla cream with antiquing to make it appear distressed.
Butter yellow?

That's what my husband did, John. He's really good at spray painting. He takes the drawers out of the dresser and then hauls it all out into the back yard. There he spray paints the furniture with the best spray paint we can afford. Does a very professional looking job>:thumb

How about painting one of the colors mentioned above....an aged antique type finish, and then painting the back wall of the bookcase with a black aged finish.
Or an off white.....

Changing the hardware on the dresser might help too. They do it all the time on those design shows.

Rebekah and Sealed, those are some great suggestions! I was tempted to paint it a bold, bright red because that's my favorite color, but that bright color just wouldn't work well in the room. I'm going to think about all your suggestions and maybe choose one of them. I do like the idea of painting the back wall a different color. Right now I'm torn. I love the idea of using eggplant in this room and I hadn't even thought about it before. I wonder how it would look if I painted the back wall eggplant and painted the rest taupe, or vice versa. :thinking I may have to do a little experimenting.
