God put it upon my heart to start a food pantry of sorts for the elderly
members of my church to ensure their grocery needs are met. I've never
done anything like this before. I'm a musician and not involved in the
senior citizen ministry at my church. It dawned on me that these
elderly saints whose employable years are behind them and who are on a
fixed income probably need help buying food, etc. I know for me the
steady increase in groceries coupled with fuel costs has created tight
finances in my house, but nevertheless, all our needs are met.

I am encouraging anyone who feels the urging of the Holy Spirit to check
the needs of the elderly in your own churches and see if there is
something you can do to make sure they have food to eat. I'm shocked
how the family members of some of these folks aren't even helping them.
One lady can't afford to run her ac in her mobile home because the
finances aren't there....and down here on the Texas coast an air
conditioner is a necessity.

Hope you will consider the needs of the elderly.

God bless you Shabach! That is a wonderful thing to do. We live in FL where there are many elderly, and her too, a/c is a must! Especially for the elderly. I lived 3 years here without it and I found it almost impossible to sleep, breath, and function! How on earth does an elderly person do it?!

The Lord put this ministry on your heart. I Praise Him for your obedience to Him. :hug

I pray others who can afford to do the same, will do so. Remember, you are giving to the LORD Himself when you reach out to the needy.

Well that is a great thing to do and I am sure you are earning treasure in heaven !!! Bless you for your insight and the courage to get up and DO something. I help out at a local food pantry here, the Elderly here get one extra box a month, Plus we load them up when they come in for the regular box. We make sure they get alot fo extras and things that are better for the elderly, ie, Butter, yogurt, cheese, fresh veggies, fresh fruit, In our opinion, like you stated they have worked thier entire lives and can not work now. So what you are doing is very very important and needed !!! Do you have the Senior Luch program in your town ? This one is great as it provides a hot cooked lunch every single day, delivered to thier home, so it works as a health check also and badly needed company at the same time, Maybe you can check and see and enroll some of your elderly into it ??? Meals on wheels is what it is called. :)

That's funny because this has been on my heart, too. Let us know how it goes, and may the Lord bless your new ministry!

Thank you, everyone. I'll keep you updated as this progresses. It's taking off rather quickly. There is such a need. The elderly are forgotten, and it shouldn't be that way.
