I'm sorry to barge on in the Woman's Discussion forum, but I was once a fan of Pokemon, and I have a few things to say about it. I'm a Christian too. :)
Well, the Pokemon fad started around the mid and late 90s, but it's pretty much over now. I even used to watch the Telivision show of Pokemon, and collected the trading cards. I bought all of the original game boy games like you mentioned there; Red, Blue, Gold, and Silver versions. However, around 2002 or so, I lost interest in the Pokemon TV series, and soon stopped playing the games too.
I know that some people, especially Christians, think that Pokemon is evil, well, I can understand why, because it makes some references to the theory of evolution. Also, I'm not sure if this is actually evil/sinful, but Pokemon also has some references to Japanese culture, and probably even their Shinto religion.
Thats all I remember about the subject for now. Bottom line, is that its pretty harmless, I don't think you will have to worry too much, but sounds like the real problem may be how long he plays the games. I hope this helped. :)

I personally was not a fan of it.. I took it away from my son; something in my spirit didn't feel right about it.. Did some research - and some of the cards' -- psychic cards, magic spells -- made me uncomfortable -- having them in my son's hands or in my home.. I don't remember everything i learned but decided it wasn't gonna be a toy in my home..
Hope that helps!!

Enfenetie, do a google search on Phil Arms-pokemon, and you will find the title of articles/book written by him that deal with this very topic. He's the only one that I've heard of who has written a Christian review of this game.

If I remember some of the plot:
Pokemon = pocket monster
It has been equated to a personal daemon (like The Golden Compass?!).
You develope your "cutie" monster into some fantasmigorical super creature that fights and sometimes destroys the other monsters. Pikichu the cute yellow thing becomes Ripichu? the most powerful of all. Monsters are grouped by type fire-earth-water....WICCA!
I saw half an episode of the cartoon and the plot was so nonexistant and un-followable (much Anime is like that) that I discouraged any play with them - found better things to do. ( I was a dedicated Speed Racer -Tobor the 8th Man- StarBlazers fan until Space 1999 came out)

if it is obsessive, it can be a bad thing.
i play the games myself. i have just about all the GB & GBA games and have won almost all of them.
the games take some dedicated time to win eventually, like all RPG-esque games
the cartoons are amusing, the movies okay.

My 2 oldest girls love Pokemon. There is nothing satanic about it! It's just make belive little animals. You can make anthing seem bad if you look hard enough.

I watched the cartoon a few times trying to decide if I should let ds watch it or not. I got a very creepy feeling inside me because it reminded me of demonic "familiars". In fact much of it looked like it was about summoning/controling demonic forces.
No thanks.... :tsk There are other shows out there that are better.
No matter what the game is though, video games are notioriously addictive. 2 Peter 2:19b NIV "...for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him." I let my kids have GB's but they are only allowed to stay in the car. I know that if I wasen't careful my ds would play it 24/7. I am praying that this is a good lesson in learning to have control over your desires by making him limit his time with the games.

My daughters all were in to Pokemon. One has all of the gameboy games. They look at it as a game. I watched the cartoons with them in the late 90s. I didn't see anything wrong with it. Yu-Gi-Oh has some things that I don't like, however. I think it all depends on how you look at it. Personally, I like Jay Leno's definition of what Pokemon means..."Stupid Americans will buy anything." :aha

Jay Leno is funny :heh. i like his voice work as The Chin in Fairly Odd Parents.
i remember a couple years ago someone accused Veggie Tales of supporting witchcraft cause the characters would move things about, without using any arms.... they tried to say it was telekenesis...:doh
veggies don't have arms...
come to think of it, they don't sing and dance or drive vans either:pound
