So my friends daughter is having a baby soon and I was invited to the shower.
Mind you my friend is not aloud to help out with the party in any way shape or form. (strange family). This new soon to be mother is single and only 22.
So this invitation struck me as so wrong. You tell me if I'm right about it.
The insert in the invitation was like this
I am registered at:
Target
Baby's r us
(now thats fine with me)
I have tons of 0-3 months clothes, but would greatly appreciate other sizes.
3-6 months- fall and winter
6-9 months-winter spring
9-12 months spring and summer
( that was the first strike at odd)
Bring pampers to be entered in the diaper raffle to win a $50 giftcard.
:hrm seriously
small bag= two tickets
medium bag= 3 tickets
large bag=4 tickets
case=6 tickets
:scratch
Ok how would you feel if you got this in the mail?

I don't see any problem with asking for clothes for an older baby. My cousin wishes she did the same, she got tons of newborn clothes, many she didn't use and ended up exchanging them (they all had tags on them) for larger sizes. People tend to buy newborn clothing and not think of the next year when the baby will be growing quickly and outgrow many things without wearing things out.
The "raffle" thing is a little odd. We had gift bags to give out and we did little games to determine the winners of the larger "prizes", but didn't make them bring a certain size gift to participate.

Take some cloth diapers- if they need diapers so badly, they can use cloth. Wash and reuse!!!

And cloth diapers are so much nicer anyway!

I use these- http://www.softclothbunz.com/Bumkins-All-In-One-Diaper-Clearance_p_0-252.html
You can find them a lot cheaper used, though!

Uhmmmm...before you bring cloth, please, please make sure that they have access to a washing machine and dryer. When I was expecting my first, I was gifted by cloth, and I had no way to wash them at my home. The washer and dryer in our apartment was horrible....and cost lots of money to use(much more than if I bought diapers). I would respect that she would like to use pampers.

When my daughter was born, I got a one month free diaper service gift, and one month is all I used, she got horrible rashes from cloth diapers so I never even tried them with my other 3. Maybe things have changed since then, that was 28 years ago.
As for the invitation, I find it odd also...not the preference for age of clothing, but the raffle is tacky IMH(oldfashioned)O. Diapers are not cheap, so the guests are expected to bringing a gift AND diapers. :scratch All showers I have had and attended, we had gift bags for the guests and played those silly games for gifts for the guests too. The invite comes across, for lack of a better word-greedy-to me. Usually, the shower thrower would put a phone number on the invite so guests can call to get ideas for gifts, and with registry's now a days, you can see what folks would like to get. :idunno

As far as what was wanted. It is my understanding thats what the Gift registries are for.
I guess I'm just really old fashioned.
I used cloth with my kids. :noidea. The diaper thing makes me wonder a bit too. Because I know for a fact this mom to be has many skin allergies. (noidea) again

Hmmmm....good momma you are! I tried Cloth diapers and my kids got terrible rashes! The pediatrician told me to switch to pampers (I preferred Huggies) :) Maybe I didn't change often enough? Not sure.... :hug
