NEW YORK (Reuters) - Criminal action game "Grand Theft Auto 4" scored over $500 million in global receipts its first week in release, selling over 6 million units to become one of the most lucrative entertainment launches in history. Sales exceeded Hollywood's biggest blockbuster film debut, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," which raked in $406 million globally in its first six days. "Grand Theft Auto IV's first-week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date," Strauss Zelnick, chairman of Take-Two, said in a statement.

Yeah, I don't know if all of you are familiar with this video game, but my ex-husband (from many moons ago -- before I became a Christian) used to play the earlier versions all the time. This version is even worse than all the others. It's super violent, and ridden with sex galore. In this game, there is nudity, sex, drugs and alcohol, prostitution, guns, foul language and more (which is why it's so popular with teens). The game manufacturers insist that it's rated "M" for mature, and that it's not recommended for anyone under 17.

Yet we all know teenagers -- anyone 12 and over (if that even) -- will find a way to play it.

How sickening is this???? I cannot believe that people are okay with this. I have to just shake my head in awe.

And pray.

Teenagers are able to play it because the parents don't care. They don't monitor what's in the games because, after all, it's just a game isn't it? It can't hurt anybody?

Wrong. Most of the triple A titles have better production values than most movies. Graphics are getting better all the time. Before you know it, you won't know the difference. Parents need to get over the fact that they aren't into playing games, and start playing the games either before or with their children.

I would have no objection to my future child playing something like Mario or Tetris, but GTA, Halo, any other violent game, he or she will be waiting until they're 18 like the sticker says.

Glenn Beck was talking about this game on his show the other day. Absolutely repulsive!!! In the game, you can get a prostitute, and then after your 'deed' is done you can beat her to death with a bat!!!! :shocked
And it's really appalling that it's raking in so much money! :rant

This is evil and I can't understand why some parents would allow that into their children's lives.

This is sick!!!! :tsk You take the "leadership" they are getting from these "games" and add it to the stress and struggles this country is headed for. No doubt there are going to be some serious violent outbreaks--sadly, probably sooner than later. :fear

So very, very thankful my kids are into the classic games. And I'm thankful there are hundreds/thousands left such as yourselves that see Satan's hand at work here and keep your kids from it.

A GREAT BIG :hug to you good parents!

Yeah, that game is TRASH.

I know kids are impressionable & don't know better, but sometimes I think a person has to be sick to get pleasure out of committing all kinds of crimes even if they are only "virtual."

Yeah, my son had a friend who used to come over and bring a rated T game for our nintendo wii and we would tell him that we don't play those games in our house. Well that kid now thinks our son is not "Cool" and doesn't come over anymore! He's 8 and his parents bought it for him. So sad!!

sometimes I think the school need to teach kids how to raise kids....

Because Some don't care and take responsibilities of their children, The government will have to step in and take away their freedom and that means, No more Grand Theft video games... Sorry, but they are asking for it.

Now, would you really want the government to teach kids to raise kids? The same government that kicked God out of schools, that teaches liberal values and morals? Seems to me that's where the problemm started.

No, but some parents are not doing the job of raising their kids properly. They would either neglect or abuse their kids... or don't discipline their kids. (I mean teach, not force them although it is against the law to neglect or abuse. Something you would learn in home economic which I think all kids should take)

it seem that majority of people don't appreciate their freedoms anymore.... and if they LOVE their games too much, they better take responsibilities of their kids. Because if their kids start to picking up Auto theft (and other things against the laws) in real life from video games, The government will step up and take extra prevention measurements to prevent choas and that includes banning violence games (in some countries, dictators have shut down alot of medias)
