This is tougher than I thought.
I need a washer and dryer. Its about time! :yeah
I have been waiting for some time to get a good one.
I wanted a front loader but I am reading people have to deal with mold on the door. IS this true? How much more clothes can you put in a front loader than a top loader. There are so many mixed reviews, I don't know what to invest in.
HELP!!

G'EyedLady, I recommend a top-loading Kitchen Aide washer and matching dryer.
Whenever we get ready to make a major purchase such as this, I go online and visit opinion/review message boards where I can read what the experience of others has been with the various brands that are available. I did this when we were looking for refrigerator, HDef TV, bread machine, dishwasher, etc., and I've been happy every time. You can google the brand name (ex. Maytag reviews) and include the word reviews to find these kinds of sites. Some of them are even specific to the particular model you are looking at within the brand name. When we were looking for a Whirlpool refrigerator (after I narrowed it down to that brand), I then compared the various models of center open styles. We found what we were looking for in our price range.
Please post again and let us know what you decide. :)

we have a frontloader washer and the matching dryer.. i think its a kenmore elite -???- (havn't seen it in 6 months and never paid attention to the name anyway) but mold is not a prob , or hasn't been yet. its at least three years old now... we bleach a lot of whites tho and use lestoil on really grubby clothes- and use vinegar, borax etc a lot.... so maybe that keeps mold at bay more than people who use a lot of fabric softener.... :idunno

the front loader cleans better, fits more and uses less water and the dryer is pretty good too.

Kenmore Elite king size. (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02649962000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Washers&Dryers&sName=All%20Washers&psid=FROOGLE01&sid=IDx20070921x00003a)

I have never been so besotted by a machine as I am with my washer and dryer. Have had no problems with mold at all, and have actually seen my colors and whites become more vibrant with no real change in my detergent.

It's a great investment. I looked at the less expensive versions, but found the hardware to be thin and mostly plastic. My Kenmore is really sturdy.

The bells and whistles make me feel like I'm playing a video game when setting up what kind of wash I want LOL :lol

If you have to pay for water, get a front loader.
The clothes get cleaner (better thrashing) and H2O usage is a lot less.

Best brand? changes from year to year, currently Maytag stinks(they may have improved reciently). I believe we have a Kennmore/Fridgidare combo that work great. Auctions-Yard sales can turn up some real buys as appliances typically don't fetch much.

If you have a repairman friend (I have a BIL ) they can let you know the best brands.

PS Washlines are very energy efficient dryers. Unless it's monsoon or bird season.

We have been wanting front loads as well. We're limping along with our washer and dryer, hoping they'll hang on a few more months. My brother just got a front load set. They said they could not get the one they wanted because they do not have a concrete floor. Anyone heard of this? Even with the one he has, he had to go into the basement (or crawl space?) to reinforce his floor as it shook the whole house. He has an old house. We do not have concrete floors or a basement either. Wonder if it's an option for us? Anyone know? In all the reviews I've seen, never heard this mentioned... :idunno
