Our kids had their spring music concert the other night. We are a small town, and this is a big deal....anyhoo....we were walking in with our kids, and my dh's head did a double take. Right in front of us is a kindergartener...she is with her parents. AND, she is dressed in a little white flapper dress(super short) with BLACK FISH NET STOCKINGS and high heals. :tsk Her parents are quite well to do...he is a lawyer and she is a dentist.....and she sings in a Christian group. You could tell that they put alot of money making her look like that. At first, it made me so sad for the little girl....and then it made me mad that her parents did that to her. That my kids had to put up with someone dressed like that.....I am just so disgusted with the lack of judgement and morals. Its getting worse everyday. Sorry. Just had to vent....try explaining this to the "world", and I get responses like, "I thought she was cute.":tsk

Wow. It's sad that they would do that to a child, and sad that things are even manufactured that small.
This world is filled with enough sick and disturbed men that we don't need to dangle that kind of "eye candy" in front of them! :tsk

Uggghhhh.
My daughter (4) is in dance and the other moms put gobs of makeup on their kids. The kicker is they said I shouldn't put panties on her because people might see her panty lines. Umm sorry, but if you can see panty lines then you can see what's underneath if she doesn't have them on. Not happening. So we decided she will NOT be in the recital, even though we already paid for her costume. Seeing the girls like that is just a slap in the face. 4 year olds are quite pretty without makeup and ten gallons of hairspray.

Our girls dance so I know what you are talking about with the make-up. Our oldest is in a dance company so she HAS to wear the make-up but she is much older (14). For the recital, we do let the girls wear some make-up just because we want good pictures and the lights bleach them out sooooo bad! They would look like ghost standing up there if they didn't have something on to help fight the lights. Don't get me wrong; they don't look like street walkers or anything. The panties under the tights is a no no though and it is for more reasons than panty lines.

Under the tights they can actually rub the skin and cause a blister. The older the girls get, the harder they work and the extra fabric that is usually cotton underneath gets in the way. You really need everything tight to protect yourself from getting hurt in so many ways. Plus, the younger girls tend to pick at their under pants when they "travel" which distracts form the class. I know it seems silly to think about these things at this age, but starting them off right leads to less stress when they are older and it really matters. And tights are ALWAYS a must. A leo with no tights won't cut it as you can pick up germs if you get my drift :ohno Dance is a beautiful sport, but like every other sport it has a dress code. When you sign up at our studio the registration form tells you what you can and can't wear. Our rules for dance are tights, one piece leo (no tummy showing), hair in a bun, jazz shorts/pants (no gym shorts) are allowed for jazz and tap only and ballet skirt may be worn in ballet and point, but not ballet technique and no panties. Can you tell I have racked up a few hours in a dance studio? :heh This year we have all 4 girls dancing! We are taking next year off though. My oldest can teach now (you learn all technique by her age) so she will be teaching her sisters next year. I just can't pay the gas to run up there 5 days a week and then take my oldest to all her shows.

I am not cut out for being a dance mom at all! They are only 4 so it's a silly little dance with costumes that look like they are from a 1980s beauty pageant! Of course, the girls love them.
I am quite sure your girls do not look like hookers ). The girls I am talking about were wearing costumey outfits (not simple ballet leotards) designed to scream--HERE I AM!!!! They honestly looked like JonBenet Ramsey. We have a NYC Ballet DVD we watch sometimes and there is a BIG difference between serious ballet and what I saw--dress, makeup, general composure are all like night and day. I'm not trying to be legalistic at all, just saying that in our case it made me very uncomfortable. In fact, I felt like I had been hit in the chest with a ton of bricks when I walked in and saw those girls.

That why my girls will never dance ANYTHING. I want them to be obedient and be modest. Any dance outfit I have seen is immodest. I'm always telling my girls that any clothing that shows their figure is wrong and God doesn't like it... I even find Irish dancing wrong, not in the dress code, but it the fact that it's not for God: so I don't care how much they beg and whine... no dance in this house...ever.
